    Barren River Help...

Going to fish Barren the first week of April, putting in at the Narrows. Asking for any help on lodging spots in this general vacinity. Never fished the lake before and thought I would give her a try. Not looking for any extravagant accomodations, typical fishing lodging will be fine for 2 people. Thanks for your help. If you want to chime in on any advice on the fishing Barren time of year it would be most appreciated. I am guessing the same type of spring patterns at KY and Barkley will work at Barren as well.

Make sure you try the bank from Hogback all the way down to the opening of the creek coming out of the Penisula Ramp. I fished it this past fall and caught a dozen or so in that stretch. Wish I knew more but all I got. I'll have more after this year once I get my boat ready to roll. Oh this area is near the damm. If you were standing on the damm looking at the lake it would be the lefthand side.

    RE: Barren River Help...

I fish barren alot because I have a lake house on it I will try to give reports as often as I can, However I fished it this sunday and the lake was way down. Barren is far different than the twin lakes they are shallow and the shallow patern works well there, If you cant find fish in the shallows, then get off of the bank a good 60 yards, don't know if they will be spawning or not then they may be if so they will be shallow. If not then get off of the bank the immediate edge of the True Channel holds alot of old structure that has been there fo 50 years the fish hold there. They are restricted to the channel for 5 months out of the year because the core drops the lake 27 feet so the relate to deep water structure most of the year there are many areas that hold fish, the most valuable peice of equipment that youll have is your depth finder find the subtle debressions from 15-30 feet with structure and your on the fish. Carolina rigs, and jigs are about all I use anymore. That is for larger fish, plenty of the 12-14 inch bass cruise the banks. The creeks are also an excellent are same as the main lake, depressions with structure. Browns Ford and hurricane creek are shallow however when the water is rising they can be deadly to large mouth, however be very carefull in browns ford there is an enourmous rock structure that right now is 30 feet out of the water however if the water is up it will be barely under the surface there are also a large number of stumps in that creek. The state park is always a nice place to stay, don't know the rates though. enjoy!!!!

Elwood, if you're putting in at the Narrows, check out the places in Glasgow. There's a couple of reasonablly priced hotels there and a bed and breakfast. Glasgow will put you about 8 or 10 miles from launch. You might also surf to the state park web site and look into staying at the lodge there at the lake. It's pretty nice.

The typical spring patterns will work at Barren. It is BTW a good crankbait lake. You may be REQUIRED by law to do a little Carolina rigging though. Give me a shout on what days you'll be fishing, I may see you out there.
