I noticed that the dogwood trees in my area (Bullitt Co.) are in full bloom. Has anyone pursued the sping crappie yet. Any good/bad reports?

Did fairly well down at Green River on Wednesday this week, but the weather will probably slow them back down this week.

The dogwoods are blooming all over the place here in e-town too. got a report from rough today and they were biting pretty good. not a lot of big fish but a fairly concistent bite on both jigs and minnows.

Those are not dogwoods blooming, That is what I thought at first but it is not Dogwoods. I am in E-town also that is where I was mistaken. Bradford pear (I think) and another tree are blooming right now. They fooled me really bad until a friend pointed out to me that it is normally April.

No, those aren't Dogwoods ... the white & pink flowered trees that are blooming now. Dogwoods have a bigger flower petal than those trees do. They (Dogwoods) don't usually start blooming until late April to early May ... depending on the ground temps. Ground temps are usually a low average of the high & low air temps of the period. Right now, those averages would be in the high 40's ... but, give us a week of 70deg highs & 50deg night time lows, and some warm day rains -- and things will start blooming big time (including fishing !!) ...........cp

    RE: Hey Pappy

Thanks all for your input. With additional research and info from your all's insight, I have realized that the trees that I have been watching are Bradford Pears, not Dogwoods. I feel like an idiot, but hey we are all still learning. Hopefully I won't make the same mistake twice.
    Thanks again for your input.

Hey Wormin ....... naw, ain't been to Cedar Creek yet. Only Crappie fishing I've done this year, so far, has been at Weiss - this past weekend. I have heard that they were being caught up shallow, before all this cold stuff came in. And I've also heard that keepers are beginning to show up in numbers. Guess I'll have to sneek down there one day, after it warms up some, and see if the rumors are true ... LOL!!
I did find out one interesting thing about the Crappie in Cedar Creek, though. Last year I fished it a couple of times (from the bank) and caught some Blacknose Crappie (about 5") from there. So ... they must have been part of the restocking brood. Only Black Crappie are in Cedar Creek ... and a Blacknose is just a Black Crappie with a genetic variable that creates a black stripe from the dorsal fin down the nose to the chin. They're not hybrids, or cross bred, they've just got a "birthmark" ...LOL!! They're scrappy fighters, too !! I've caught them from Watts Bar, on numerous occasions. I'd have a 2lb Blacknose mounted (if I ever catch one ...LOL!) .... cp
