First let me say I HATE that lake. As you know, the boat has a horsepower rating limit, 150 hp is the biggest allowed, although an expemption has been passed to allow 200 HPs in the off season. I don't know if it has gone into affect yet.
Anyway, if you put in at the State ramp, that is a decent cove. Lots of bass released there. The best place I've caught fish is the point on the right, just as you leave. There is a little private ramp there, and I've caught my best fish off that point.
I have no idea what the water temps are right now, but in the spring the best fish are normally caught as far up as possible. You'll have to go under the bridge by shady cliff, and keep going. Just keep going, and it will get shallower and more like a lowland resivoir, and that is the best spawning areas.
If you don't want to go that far, you can leave the state ramp, and as the lake turns to the left, you will see you can go to the right. There are three fingers that go back there, and a lot of fishing goes on back there. You will find the water fairly deep, but a shallow ledge along the walls of the lake. A lot of folks I know have caught very nice fish in the emergent grass on the ledges.
AGAIN, I HATE THAT LAKE!!! It used to have a slot limit of 12 to 15 inches. Until two years ago, I had never caught a fish over 15 inches. Once the slot limit was put into affect, I caught plenty of keepers... LMAO The lake is full of 11 inchers (or used to be), especially back in those fingers I mentioned. The only map I've ever seen was a hand drawn lake that I got from the shady cliff marina. You might check and see if he has any left.
Good luck to you, and I hope you have a good time.
Danny
