    Lake Malone

Thinking of heading to Malone tomorrow for bass. Any advice would be appreciated as I do not know this lake. Not in a tourney, just for fun and catch and release! Even general info would help.

    RE: Lake Malone

First let me say I HATE that lake. As you know, the boat has a horsepower rating limit, 150 hp is the biggest allowed, although an expemption has been passed to allow 200 HPs in the off season. I don't know if it has gone into affect yet.

Anyway, if you put in at the State ramp, that is a decent cove. Lots of bass released there. The best place I've caught fish is the point on the right, just as you leave. There is a little private ramp there, and I've caught my best fish off that point.

I have no idea what the water temps are right now, but in the spring the best fish are normally caught as far up as possible. You'll have to go under the bridge by shady cliff, and keep going. Just keep going, and it will get shallower and more like a lowland resivoir, and that is the best spawning areas.

If you don't want to go that far, you can leave the state ramp, and as the lake turns to the left, you will see you can go to the right. There are three fingers that go back there, and a lot of fishing goes on back there. You will find the water fairly deep, but a shallow ledge along the walls of the lake. A lot of folks I know have caught very nice fish in the emergent grass on the ledges.

AGAIN, I HATE THAT LAKE!!! It used to have a slot limit of 12 to 15 inches. Until two years ago, I had never caught a fish over 15 inches. Once the slot limit was put into affect, I caught plenty of keepers... LMAO The lake is full of 11 inchers (or used to be), especially back in those fingers I mentioned. The only map I've ever seen was a hand drawn lake that I got from the shady cliff marina. You might check and see if he has any left.

Good luck to you, and I hope you have a good time.

    RE: Lake Malone

Hey Danny, what do you really think about Lake Malone???? :)

We fished our first tournament of the year there in April. Big fish was 8.4 and the same guy got a 7.6. The guy that won had about 21 as I recall. Out of 10 boats there were five limits of over 15# brought in. Maybe the fish were just on that day....the only thing was they were not on for me. I only had one keeper....

    Have a good one Danny.....

    Danny...

Thanks for the info! I was beginning to wonder if I would ever get any feedback on this board. I guess it was the Ike thing way back when. The price you pay for being a former Ike fan. I couldn't even get help with hybrids on here. Anyway, didn't get to go to Malone but went instead to Nolin. Had a great day by my standards. Caught a lot of bass and a few good ones around mudlines and deep. Anyway, Thanks again for the advice!

    Raminated...

    You are certainly welcome.

As for your Ike support... if you had not mentioned it, I would not have known. I have a short memory for such stuff. What I find is that when friends are true friends, they can say anything to each other, even argue, and they are still friends.

My problem is that I usually treat people as true friends before they are to the same point, or else they just don't share those values.

Slopfishin and Dew on here have been fishing with me, as has Grumpy. I've tried to explain to each one of them, I tell it exactly as I see it, and sometimes I rag them to the very end of my ability to tease. I ask each of them to feel free to tell me to just shut up... LOL... if I get on their nerves too much. Some folks just can't take me acting this way.. others can.

If I can ever help anyone on the board, I am always very happy to do so.

Glad you had a good trip to Nolin. Nothing like catching fish to make a day great.

    Danny
