    Google Earth

Has anyone downloaded and tried out this software? For anyone who doesn't know what Google Earth is, it is a 3D satellite mapping program that basically maps the whole world in great detail. I found it most useful in scouting out new potential fishing spots and I'm sure it would be even better for hunting. If you haven't tried it out already, you may want to.

I finally tried it and was amazed at what it could do. Imagine flying over Dale Hollow and being able to inspect each cove and creek in thorough detail.

I understand there are some privacy and security issues involved with this program however.

    What are your thoughts?

As a dial up internet user....

It kills me that our great state just can't seem to muster the umph to get high speed internet to our rural residents. I've already emailed our state legislator, suggesting we try the CA method, and that being use the electrical wires to offer broad band, reall..... broadband.... I mean mega band width... but I'm sure cable and the phone industry will keep it from happening.

Ooooops... sorry as for the program... what little I've seen, I love. Grumpy on here uses Windows Live, which might be the same thing. When he came here to fish with me at KY lake, he brought an areial picture of our farm. Pretty cool, but not a lot of detal. The main thing was he used the program to find a nice little short cut out to our house. The short cut is not one I normally try to explain to people as you use some small roads.

I'd love to be able to use this service to view the lakes... especially the corp. lakes that are drawn down 25 feet or more. Think of the shoreline cover you can find during the low water times.

i'd like to know how far behind the maps you are viewing coincide with today's date. What I mean is I zoomed in on my house, and the shed isn't there that I built going on 3 years ago. the maps are quite a bit dated.

i also checked out cedar creek. no water to be found there which makes me think it must be running on data from probably 4 years ago?

...no water at cedar creek, but i could make out the beach. Ha Ha.

    Last USGS photo survey...

The aerial photos you are looking at are about six years old, dated from arround 2000. Some are more recent, some might be a little older. The US Geographic Survey project photos the entire country on a regular basis, photographing large metropolitain areas more regurarly with high power satalites. I work with these and other aerial photos on a regular basis and have to know when the photos are taken. I schedule aerial photos for my company and our airport facilities on a regular basis, and let me tell you it aint cheep....

You should be able to get hardcopies from the local county seats for a nominal fee.

    Keep on chuckin'

Yeah, I use it alot. I downloaded the free version about a year ago and it's pretty good for the most part. I would really like to know what the $400 Professional download would be like. I had heard it was very close-up and clear pictures.
