any idea on winning patterns locations?
All the fish were bedding from what I understand. The winning team if I remember caught them on everything from plastics to spinner baits.

Sorry for the delay, the newsletter will be online today.

Good going guys...you complain about the bass in Meldahl Pool and yet you have a big tourney during the spawning time. I know that fish are easier to catch while they are on the nest but you also remove they spawners that will create more fish for your future tourneys...you can not have it both ways.
The fish were released in several creeks, Most fish were POST spawn.I seriously doubt having this tournament affected the future fishing conditions on the river. Are you saying we should ban all fishing during May on the river??
That's not a fair statement seeing that I've never hosted a tournament up there and did not even take into account pre- or post spawn. We were dictated by other tournaments and local events on where we could host our tournaments for the Ohio River Rumble. Why else do you think the Carrollton Tourny July 23rd, is so far away from the June 11th Louisville.
With this river and weather there was no one I could have planned this tourny as you stated, for one I have NO CLUE when the spawn will start and end and I can tell you it never came up in the planning.

Personally I see nothing wrong with the bass in the Meldahl Pool. I haven't been up their in 6 years---but 6 years ago it was good then too. This time the fishing was awesome. One of the best weigh-ins I have seen on the river in a long time. Matt did not peronsonally set out to make this tournament be on "the spawn" What a ridiculous statement!!!!! Spawn time on the river could be from anywhere in late April all the way to sometime in June. Weather only dictates that. I guarantee Matt didn't know when the Meldahl pool spawn was back in November. I would also like to commend Matt for having a "live release boat" to take care of our fish. I am sure if there was any spawners left---they still spawned somewhere in that pool.
BTW---is it just coincidence that your profile name is one of the KDFWR black bass fisheries biologists? Or, do you just happen to have the same name? Just curious?
Your telling me that the fish were released in several creeks?
Is that what your saying?
Is the information open to the public which creeks were stocked or is this information only for a select few??
a select few
So which creek did you release the fish in Matt? Can we all find out?
Man, some of you guys are evil! I would suggest you guys read a few reports and thesis papers over the impact of tournaments during the spawn before making such comments. Studies have shown over and over that there is little to no impact on the fishery as a result of such tournaments. If the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife had found evidence to support such a problem, then tournaments would be stopped.
Plapp's is like any other quality business in the fishing market that wants to promote the sport, provide excellent service, and put on professional caliber tournaments for its friends and customers. No matter where you stand on the issue, we should all maintain our friendships and avoid negative attitudes towards others.
Fishing is fun, let's keep it that way! Don't get all mad about it! :)
