    Rough 5-18/5-19

Had a blast! First time I have ever caught so many nice crappie crankin'. Took my dad out for some crappie/bass fishing and actually did both at the same time. Found submerged timber a little off the beaten path and thought it looked promising for some crappie fishing to satisfy his cravings for fresh fillets. I like to catch, cut, cook, and chomp on some crappie, but I usually would rather be bass fishing :>) Of course after catching a few crappie, I decided to start probing all the surrounding areas w/ a flatDT in parrot. I caught a few keeper bass and then IT happened. I thought I had caught a bluegill or really small bass. When I lifted the fish toward the boat I realized it was a crappie. Not just any crappie either. It was just over 13" and plump. No monster or trophy, but great for the table. This continued throughout our two days on Rough. Find a "fishy" looking spot, catch some decent crappie, catch and release a couple keeper bass. Made for a fun little two day trip. Even found crappie on a rock wall on an outside bend with very little brush marked on the graph. Had a ball catchin all those fish w/out changing lures. Tried live minnows and caught a few keeper crappies, same with w/light jigheads and crappie tubes, but nothing compared to what we were doing w/the crankbaits. Anyone else having similar results w/crankin crappie? I've caught a few on shad raps and such, but never anything like this. I've read about people trolling cb's for crappie but didn't ever think it would work on a lake like Rough, maybe Ky or Barkley I could see, but on Rough. Man, I wish I had tried this a lot sooner! Sure left these two fisherman w/ big smiles at the end of our little trip. Love to hear anybody else's similar results.

I've caught some pretty nice crappie crankin before. But never as consistantly as you did. I was at Nolin Sunday. Sounds like we should have been at Rough! Anyway, glad you had a great day
