What is the toughest lake in the state?
Don`t get to fish very much, but my vote would be for Dale Hollow.
Dale Hollow followed very closely by Cumberland.
I would have to say Laurel Lake is the toughest lake that I have fished. You won't find a lake where the fish change more anywhere. It can be very cruel to the best of fishermen.

Five years ago I would agree with you on Laurel. You just need more experience on that lake. It takes 15+ pounds to win the average tourney on Laurel, and there have been a crapload of 20+ bags this year, too.
Taylorsville or the River if we're just talking fishable bodies of water. Assuming your fishing for bass. Now if you're fishing for hybrids, white bass, sauger or crappie.....all bets are off.

Yea what he said. You can look at what happens to the super pro's when they show up at these lakes sometimes and it's struggle city. These clear highland lakes can not just change by the day but by the hour.
i have to say dale hollow followed by malone.
Does a person get to comfortable with his home lakes and rely on the same old tactics that he used to catch fish before? I know sometimes that my stubbornness to change makes lakes harder than they actually are. I'll use the same dependable baits that that I have always caught fish on instead of searching for what they really want and settle for one or two fish a night when I could be catching a boatload. I fish Laurel and it seems to get really tough but can go to Cumberland and be more focused and do very well even when locals claim the fishing is very slow.
I do not fish Cumberland but maybe once a year and have not been on Dale for many years so I can not say about those two. The toughest lake for me is Green, that darn lake can make a pro cry. Go one day catch a bunch of GOOD fish and go the next and not even get a hit. I seen one small tourney last summer won with one 13" fish. It is the hardest for me.
I would have to agree with easy- Laurel has been HOT for the past year or so. As far as Cumberland and Dale, it just depends on what day you are there. I have had many days with only a fish or two but I have also had some of the most amazing days of my life at those two lakes. One thing to remember is that all lakes have their cycles and all can be tough at one time or another. When I think of Cumberland I never picture fishing there when its more than 60 outside. Cumberland to me is a wintertime lake, thats when you really get your arm broke. Once it gets hot I hardley ever go there because I know that all the boat traffic and hot weather have pushed the fish deep and its tough to get a bite. I also know of guys who go down there at night and absolutely slay'em. Thats just the way you have to look at it. But, thats just my opinion and I am only one guy.
Have any of you tried to fish Beaver Lake? Most can catch fish but hard to catch a keeper.
