    Nolin Lake Summer Bassin?

Putting in at Wax, what are some good summer patterns and areas to fish for bass? Fished Nolin once 15 years ago, but for crappie. Don't remember anything about the lake. Just need some basic guidance like fishing a new lake. Any info would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bassky

    RE: Nolin Lake Summer Bassin?

    Bassky,

You don't say when you are going, but I've always been told it is almost impossible to fish Nolin on weekends in the summer. I've always been told that the recreational boaters are just to thick.

Hopefully Grumpy can help you a little. He took me fishing there once, and seems to know the lake pretty well.

I'd suggest getting a good map, consider the time of year, water temps, water level and trend... rising falling... and consider where the bait would be the most likely, then fish there. If you find the bait, you will usually find your fish.

    Good luck,

    Danny

RE: GRUMPY: Nolin Lake Summer Bassin?

I've fished Nolin hard for the past 3 years. My best pattern during the summer months is to use a tube and blue & black jig with a blue pork from # 11. Caught some great fish on them. I use a double bladed buzz bait early and sometimes up as late as 11:00 am catching some nice fish as well, sometimes even getting strikes as close as 5 feet from the boat on the buzz bait. I fish the south end of the lake and mostly fish the main lake anywhere from 12 to 25 feet of water. Not much luck on spinnerbaits this time of year, but have good luck on cranks as well...

Good luck, and yes the other posts are correct, if you don't have your fish by 11:00 am , the pleasure boats will kill your fishing. Be ready for at least 3 sided waves to hit your boat when traveling the main lake...Allow extra time to get back to the weigh in site when ever fishing on this lake...It's murder at times...

RE: GRUMPY: Nolin Lake Summer Bassin?

The skiers and jet skis were on the lake this past sunday. Caught some decent bass but mostly on Carolina Rig and jig out on mainlake points. This weekend will mark the beginning of the rough water season for sure. That is the reason when I fish Nolin, I live 22 miles from Nolin I fish it mostly at night.
