Bass fishing below L'ville on river

I'm visiting my brother in Radcliff this weekend and taking him fishing on the Ohio. What does that part of the river have to offer?(creeks, backwater areas etc.) The map shows the salt river coming in down there, is it accessible by boat? Any decent areas on the main river? Thanks for the help, just trying to catch a few fish.
    Have a great holiday weekend.

I am not very familar with that stretch of river either but I have bass fished the river for many moons on other stretches and can share some general advice. I noted that the river is running pretty heavy current today so that will limit places on the main river for bass fishing. On the main river you will want to find cover and current breaks like back sides of islands, gravel washes, or around parked barges. Mouths of creeks like the Salt river are usually very good this time of year. We have had a cool May so there may be some fish still spawing or early post-spawn back up in these creeks but that may have been messed up by the rains the last couple of days. The river is not loaded with bass like some of the lakes but if you have some patience and look around you can find some decent fish.

Its been several years since I was on the ramp at the mouth of Salt River but I remember the actual ramp being pretty decent. Kinda steep but ample parking. If the water has been up the ramp will be full of trash & debris, I had to lock the truck in 4-wheel to back down over the brush last time I was there. Can't give you any fishing advice, the only times I've been were on Memorial Day when Range Control use to open Salt River up to boat traffic and I always went up to fish around Salt/Rolling Fork. ---Hope this helps.

Are you not supposed to fish the Salt river for some reason? Why would there be guards there?

Salt River goes through Ft. Knox area. I am guessing the reason you can't go up in Salt is for security reasons. You can fish from the mouth and back a little ways without any trouble, but if you get very far back in there, the military guys will let you know you are not wanted.
