    Lodging at Barkley/Kentucky Lake

Hope I'm not violating any rules of the board here, but wanted to share a recent discovery for places to stay down in the north end of Barkley/Kentucky Lake if you're looking for accomodations.

On highway 62 next to the Cumberland House Restaurant is an old-style motel (used to be Sid's). It has been completely renovated and reopened as the Poplar Creek Lodge. The rooms are very nice and clean, and the rates are very good. Plenty of hookups for your boat, too.

Location is terrific with the restuarant next door, three bait shops within walking distance, and the Poplar Creek, Buzzard Rock, and Kuttawa boat ramps all within a quick drive.

The new owner has done a terrific job of pulling this place together, and is working hard to serve customers. Give it a try if you need a place to stay.

    BEW,

Thanks for the update. I remember staying there at Sids many years ago. Those are fond memories, even though the motel was really going down hill at that time.

The best part was all our club members were there, and we would sit outside in the evening with an "adult" beverage and share a lot of fish stories.... and then some...LMAO

I hope the new folks do well. How much are they charging for the rooms now, and did they add phones to the room? One of the things I liked was the lack of a phone...LOL

    Thanks again,

    Danny

You're in luck with the phones....still none in the rooms. I like that, too. Everything else is upgraded. There's satellite TV (for those stormy or too hot nights). My favorite aspect (believe it or not) is that the rooms have great water pressure. Most places I've stayed near the lakes have a trickle coming out of the shower. You can actually get a real shower at Poplar Creek Lodge!

I never stayed at Sid's, but the location of this place is just terrific if you like the north end, particularly of Barkley. Having the buffet next door, and three bait shops to pick stuff up in (I alway seem to need a few more crankbaits to "donate" to the fishing spirits) is great.

The prices are around $65 for a weekend night, I believe. Their website has all the details (www.poplarcreeklodge.com).
