GPS THE BEST OR WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO FISHING

LAST EDITED ON Jun-05-06 AT 03:37PM (EST)[p]IT USED TO BE THE GUY WITH THE BINOCULARS THAT WAS SO BAD. NOW EVERYBODY WITH GPS COULD BE YOUR NEXT FISHING PARTNER INVITED OR UNINVITED. I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE NOT DOING THEIR HOMEWORK AND DEPENDING ON SOMEONE ELSE TO SHOW THEM WHERE TO CATCH FISH. WE FISHED 2 DAYS ON KY AND BARKLEY HAD NO FEWER THAN 10 GUYS COME BY AND BEEP BEEP (WPT WPT) EVEN HAD ONE GUY THAT WATCHED US LOSE A MONSTER FISH COME RIGHT OVER AND ASK IF WE WERE FISHING A TOURNAMENT, THEN PROCEED TO FISH THE SAME SPOT AND WATCH US FOR THE NEXT HOUR. WHAT HAPPENED TO TAKING PRIDE IN GOING OUT AND FINDING YOUR OWN SPOT TO FISH AND HOW TO CATCH THE FISH THAT LIVE THERE. I DO NOT EVEN LIKE GUYS HIRING GUIDES FOR TOURNAMENT FISHING. IS IT WHO GETS THE BEST GUIDE OR HAS THE MOST MONEY TO HIRE MULTIPLE GUIDES. DO NOT GET ME WRONG I THINK GUIDES ARE GREAT FOR PEOPLE JUST WANTING TO GO FISHING OR HOW TO LEARN TO FISH NOT GUYS THAT ARE EXPERIENCED TOURNAMENT ANGLERS. WHEN THESE PEOPLE WIN THEY DID NOT WIN THEY CHEATED THEIRSELVES AND EVERONE ELSE THAT DOES THINGS THE RIGHT WAY. BUY A MAP AND SPEND SOME MONEY ON GAS AND GO FIND YOUR OWN FISH!!!!!!!!! DO NOT SELL YOUR SELF SHORT LIFE IS TO SHORT TO PRETEND TO BE SOMETHING YOUR NOT. IF YOU CLAIM TO BE A GOOD FISHERMAN THEN DO IT THE RIGHT WAY DO NOT TAKE SHORT CUTS. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WHEN THOSE FISH ARE NOT THERE GO WATCH SOME BODY ELSE??

GPS, I like it but I've never done what your talking about.
I bet it just who you are. You still fishing out of the fast cat.
I live in Indiana and people talk about you all the time up here
I fished against you in the IBL
When your name gets out about how good you are on a lake, all kinds of people will follow you.
You were the number one pick to win Midwest sportsman classic last year.
So did you win any tournaments this weekend.

To anwer your question about GPS (or I think that is the question) I just purchased a GPS and maps and think it is the best thing since sliced bread. It is a great safety insturment for boating in low visibility (keeping you on course and in the boating lanes)and It is a super convienient way to keep your maps orgainized opposed to paper maps. It by no means keeps me from having to do my homework to find spots. It does however help this aging mind remember them once I have found them.

That is pretty sad what the guys did. I have a tournament this weekend at Ky Lake and have no experience ledge fishing, but I would never come up to someone and GPS the spots they were fishing. I even had a buddy of mine offer me his map that had a few good ledges on it and I turned him down. I would not consider myself a sucessful fisherman if I used his spots to win a tourney. I plan on putting my 12+ hours on the water in practice to try and put something together. If I don't then oh well I will do my best. That's just how I feel about it.

RE: GPS THE BEST OR WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO FISHING

FLW Stren Series is down at KY and Barkley this week. If this happened there, it might have been one of those competitiors, and BASS Elite will be there next weekend I believe.

I don't think there is anything wrong at all with noting where others are fishing. I disagree with moving in and fishing with you though.

There have been many times I am fishing a spot, a drop or something, and someone pulls up near by and fishes another spot. After they leave I may pull over there and use my sonar to help me understand what they are fishing, and yes, I will sometimes enter into my GPS unit.

However, that is really no different than having a map and stopping to mark on your map where someone is fishing.

I don't think it is the GPS that is bothering you, but the instant gratification you think the anglers are trying to achieve by using your spots when you feel you had to work to find them on your own.

^ I agree with Danny. People could have done this to you 30 years ago ... they just would have had to use a pencil and a map instead of today's high technology.

I think people should take the time to learn WHY fish bite when they do and where they do, instead of just memorizing spots on a lake. That's why the original poster in this thead will still be catching fish and the guys he's ticked off won't be when the pattern changes ever so slightly.
