    Nolin report for 6/13/06

Fished hard yesterday and caught alot of bass, unfortunately though it was alot of dinks. Early morning put in at Wax, motor to bridge, bass are busting shad all over the surface. I throw buzzbait, sammy, pop-r, fluke, not even so much as a wiff. Talked to an older fellow coming up the bank, and he said same thing, couldn't make one bite a surface bait. Go figure, they are obviously busting shad all around us and no surface bait will get bit. He said he had caught a couple of shorties on a crankbait. Went to Dog creek and got on one bank that I starting getting alot of bites and catches on black and blue jig. Best ones were a 14 inch, a couple of 13 inchers and the rest smaller largemouth and spots. Had one long distance release on a tail walk on top of a solid 2 to 2/12 pounder. Lake was stained to muddy in spots and semi-clear in others depending on where you were. Debris demanded respect early in the morning and become pushed to shore by mid day. Which brings me to my next subject. That lake on a doggone Tuesday was crawling with people. Pleasure boaters, waverunners, cruisers, I bet I saw a hundred different boats yesterday. If it's like this on a Tuesday I don't even want to think about what that place looks like on the weekend. That lake in my opinion is becoming Taylorsville part two the sequel. Too much traffic and too much pressure I won't be back for quite awhile. Had the same freaking moron almost bounce me out of the boat twice in thirty minutes. Anyway there's my sorry report, for what it's worth.

We fish Friday nights and the boat traffic along with the jet skis makes for a rough ride going from Wax down the Lake.
Those fish busting the top could have been whites, they were all over the Lake.

Did you ever get the opportunity to fish the area around Iberia? Going down this weekend but will probably be limited to fishing around Iberia where State Rd 88 crosses the lake. It has been ages since I fished Nolin so not sure the best strategy to approach this area.

Fished Nolin Sunday and until mid afternoon the boat traffic wasn't bad at all, even then it wasn't very crowded. We did fish up past the 88 bridge at Iberia, even less traffic up there but by the time we made it up there it was in the heat of the day and not much action with the fish.

I fished Nolin on Sunday as well. All I can say is that boat traffic wasn't that bad until around 10am or so then they were ripping and running everywhere. Kind of rough after that. Saw lots of surface activity all over the lake of which mostly were whites with some largemouth's mixed in but mostly whites based upon my experience. I would have to agree with the Taylorsville comment.

Yea I figured alot them were whites, so I down sized Pop R as to maybe get them to hit it, and still, No Go. I did not fish around Iberia. I can usually put 2 to 3 keepers in the boat at Nolin, but not yesterday. I'm fixin to go nocturnal until fall.

I fished Nolin Sunday afternoon until the rain got there, had a real bad day. I went back Monday evening from 6:00-10:00 had a great time. Caught 22 fish 12 keepers with on fish 3lbs+ and (2)two fish over 6 lbs. Caught the two 6+ 10 minutes apart. The 3+ and one of the 6+ caught on jig the other on a spinnerbait, all on main lake points in deep water. I seen a lot of fish busting surface also most of what I seen was small spots busting fry, but I also did see whites in more open water.

I did have some locals down there, that live right on the lake that said the afternoon late bite had been much better than the morning bite. Figures, zigged when I should have zagged, story of my entire life.

Hey old man....you better head to the Day's Fri Night tonight with that kind of luck.

I'll be down this weekend (late late tonight)....My Dad and brother-in-law with me. I'm hoping to fish Saturday morning, Sat after dark, and Sunday morning. We'll see. Drop me a line if you're around.

    Happy Dad's Day!
