    Which GPS to buy

I am going to buy a new color GPS (bow mount) for my boat. I have been looking at the Lowrance LMS332 (approx $650 w/o the card). Any suggestions on other similar priced units and/or any information on the LMS 332 unit.

Which map cards should I purchase? Some are $100, some are $125 and some are $150.......which one should I buy.

I have heard some good things about the free maps you can download off of Google. I do not have a GPS so I cannot attest to this myself, butt, free is worth a shot in my book.

Do a search on free gps maps lakes. Came up with a bunch of results. I was under the impression that Google had their own set of maps and I think I was misinformed. The search came up with several thousand results.

    I have a 332c ... love it.

I use the Navionics HotMaps premium chip with it. I think I paid 140 for it through a discount GPS on-line site.

One thing to look at. Be sure whatever mapping chip you order has the maps you want. Navionics has map lists online detailing what maps are included with which chips.

Also, make sure you order the correct chip format. If you do go with the 332c, you need the MMC/SD format (that's a SecureDigital or MultiMedia Card) This is referring to the physical size/shape of the map chip. Get the wrong one and it won't fit.

I bought it at The Great Outdoors in Lavalette, WV. 304-525-4556 ask for Scott. Anyone who buys a unit from them you get a free card. Thats $100 dollar savings right there. Super helpful friendly people. They had mine installed in less than an hour.
