Brother Chuck,
I agree with you. I have seen boats pulling skiers and tubes everywhere but the ski area.

i was on guist creek today and was amazed at the way
people had total disregard for the.law. there were jet
skis in the ski area and they even ran all the way up tick creek sectiion.
even the local yocals on their pontoon boats run wide open.
it all started back a few years ago when the game warden passed boats running wide open. when asked about the no wake law she informed the people'"it only applies when you have the boat anchored."
if this is the law it needs to be posted then everyone can run any speed they desire. i have been to the lake many times this year and have never seen
law enforcement there. even on the days i don't fish i ride out to the lake. if the state gets any revenue from guist creek lake they haven't earned it enforcing the laws.
Brother Chuck,

Someone please help me define the area you guys are talking about. I assumed when you leave the ramp and head in a Northerly direction for approx 500 yards or so (past the camper/cabin area) that you are in a no wake zone until you reach a set of bouys. At that point you can run wide open(another 4-500 yards) until you hit the bridge then there is a short no wake under the bridge. After that it is wide open again. Am I wrong ? The area I am talking about is clearly marked for obvious reasons namely to keep wake from disrupting the docks for the permanent campers. If I am wrong I too have unknowingly violated this law. If so I appologize.
LAST EDITED ON Jun-21-06 AT 07:46AM (EST)[p]I'm not completely disagreeing with your post, but let me start this by saying I'm a fisherman first and a pleasure boater (pontoon) second...I readily admit that I partake in both activities (not on Guist Creek, but Nolin, Green, Barren, etc). I do not own a jet ski and have a general dislike for them (more so, their inconsiderate riders).
However, your post says there were "jet ski's in the ski zone and they rode all the way up Tick Creek"....as far as I know, there is no law/rule against that. There is also no law against them in no-wake or no-ski zones. No-Ski zones are only designed to be enforced against actual skiers and/or tubers, wakeboarders, etc. These tend to be for saftey reasons based on the area of the lake. Jet-ski's are a PWC and operate under all the same rules as any other motorboat (except the rule about keeping a distance of 100 yards from other moving craft I think).
Now, if they were riding up on plane throwing a wake as they passed other boats on Guist, that's another story. Although I'm aware of the "rule" at Guist that says "no wake" when passing boats that are not motoring, I've never really seen it posted anywhere. I know that it was generally announced in the old Thursday night tourneys and it was sometimes followed and sometimes not.
As for the way I understand the zones on Guist:
Strictly No Wake Areas: 1) From Marina gas dock to past the last docks heading into the Guist Creek arm 2) Under the bridge in Guist creek arm
General No Wake Rule: No wake past boats that are anchored or trolling motor fishing (EXCEPT IN THE SKI AREA MENTIONED BELOW)
Ski Area: Main lake between Tick Creek arm all the way up near the dam (all other areas are off limits to skiers, tubers, etc. but not Jet Ski's
Hope this helps.
In response to apextrail's reply, I too have been under the same thoughts as his as to the NO Wake Zones... I really believe that Guist Creek Lake is actually too small of a lake to allow Jet Skies to run and big pleasure Boats...Also one of my friends told me that he thought there was a size limit on the size of boats that are allowed to run on the lake. He thought it was no boat longer than 25 feet, except for pontoons the rule does not apply... I could be wrong, also I do know that the Law Enforcement is monitored on this lake...If the Fish and Game dee you running on plane and not obiding to the laws of the lake ...( YOU WILL BE FINED ) I've seen it done alot, so take my advice and don't make a wake in an area that says * NO WAKE *....
Remember...It's harder to catch something you can't see...Than shoot something you can see....
If your post is correct I have been fine with the "no wake zones" but had no knowledge of the no wake passing anchored boats. I always make an effort to slow down and/or make a wide swing around boats that were not under motor power. If I was in the wrong by not slowing completely down and offended anyone on the lake I sincerely appologize.

game warden was out saturday .... of course no one drives dumb then...
I visited Guist Creek Lake for the first time today. As I put in there is a big fish and wildlife sign with one of the rules being "No wake when passing a boat fishing". It's clearly marked at the ramp when you put in. That said I got beat to heck by wakes today. I have a 19 1/2 foot fish and ski which has taller sides than a standard bass boat, as I was trolling towards the junction near the ramp a bass boat coming out of the no wake laid on their huge motor swung around me and took off. The following wakes came over the sides of my boat and completely soak everything inside!!! There is no reason for what the jerk did in a regular lake but to do that on a small lake that has a no wake rule is inexcusable. The other boat giving me fits what was pleasure boater that was towing two people on a tube (One driver, no observer, and no mirror. I guess the laws don't apply to him.). He was just going back and forth around me creating wakes. I trolled far away up a creek to get away from him. Well about an hour later here comes the pleasure boater full bore creating a huge wake as he passed several boats that were clearly fishing. He pulled into a little cove up the creek. It looks like he lives on the lake. He must think it is his private lake.
yep.. that happens there.. I fish there at least three days a week, and I'll tell ya another thing, the boats on that lake have the fastest idle out of any boats ive been on... and I dont think ive EVER had a boat slow down when we were fishing a bank, anchored or not... I dont get it.
