    National radio mentions Barkley cheaters

On the noon edition of the Paul Harvey radio broadcast today, Thursday 6/29, Paul Harvey made mention of the Barkley cheaters including their names. I was glad to hear mention of it by him; hopefully, they will be made an example of and receive a stiff penalty. Needless to say, their tournament fishing days should be no more and perhaps it will deter others who may be tempted to cheat to think otherwise. If you would like to hear the Paul Harvey radio broadcast, go to www.paulharvey.com and select the Thursday, noon edition.

I also heard a broadcast on ABC world news this evening on the radio. Seems this little event has caught a lot more attention than I ever thought it would. Maybe this will ensure a stiff penalty and really open a few eyes to those who think to do wrong.

To make matters worse I hear that these guys eat all the largemouth and smallmouth bass that they catch.

All I can say is get a rope!

What does everyone think would be an appropriate penalty or sentence for these guys? Jail time? How much? Fine? How much? Felony conviction? Loss of boat? Loss of fishing license? Community service? (Assume for argument purposes that neither has any criminal record.) I would suggest a misdemeanor conviction with a one year probated jail sentence and loss of hunting/fishing license for two years. Assuming no prior record.

No matter what the record. I believe they should loose all equipment already confiscated. Loss of fishing/hunting licenses for lifetime, some jail time (5-10 yrs)and any money won they should have to pay to the finishers right behind them in any of those tournaments.

This is not a minor conviction. They have stolen from hundreds of people the last several years. If they had not been caught it would have continued. This also has to be a warning for everyone else not to do it.

That my friend is speculation. Only two guys involved know if that is true or not. Making an example out of these two won't change a thing. Once the conviction is handed down, either way I might add, no one will remember these guys.

5 to 10 years? Wow! I'm not sure what they're charged with but I bet it's attempted theft over $300. That would be a class A misdemeanor and would only carry up to one year. You wouldn't probate them? You'd really want them to serve 10 years?

If Paul Harvey and the national media has sunk their teeth into them they're gonna get some serious punishmnet anyhow.

I'd say the maximum fine the infraction they're charged with carries and some serious community service time picking up trash at all state park/corps boat ramps. Their tournament fishing days are already over, and no fishing club or organization will touch them with a 10 ft pole.

Go look at the latest indictments, its on one of the other posts. There have been several other indictments that they have been charged with over the last 2-3 years in Lyon and Marshall county.

Why would they lose their fishing license? Did they actually violate any fish and wildlife laws?

Some of the latest reports has up to 11 indictments on felony charges. This is from the UPN channel 12 news.

"Two Kentucky grand juries passed down 10 felony indictments and one misdemeanor indictment of "Theft by Deception," for allegedly cheating eleven fishing tournaments. The fishing buddies won thousands of dollars and won a $30,000 fishing boat."

I'm not sure of the exact law but because the violation happened on state waterway and during a fishing event. There are a ton of news articles out there on the web. Check them out, some are reporting they could face up to 50 years in jail.

Locally, these guys will never be forgotten no matter if their convicted or not.
