    Nolin saturday night

I took my nephew, visiting from Nebraska, to Nolin saturday night to see if we couldn't hook a few bass. Well, as far as fishing goes, we had a great night, but man what a wild place!
It was bad enough in the daylight with all the boats, jet skis, and drunks but after dark is when the real idiots came out. We nearly witnessed an accident because some idiot in a pontoon had nothing but docking lights on. A bass boat running down the lake evidently came very close to hitting the idiot in the rear. We couldn't tell how close it was, but when the dude in the bass boat stopped to cuss the pontooner, we knew it had to be close.
Later we saw a big loud and fast boat runnin down the lake with just one small white light on the front.
Don't these idiots know how dangerous this is? Evidently they don't give a **** either. I don't suppose calling the water patrol people would do anything. Has anyone ever seen them on the lake at night?
    Sorry, just ranting, Brutus

    RE: Nolin saturday night

Dude I feel your pain. I was there a few weeks ago during the middle of the week and that dang lake was nothing but wild. Nolin is nothing more than an oversized mudhole as it is and there are waaaaay too many boats on that little lake. I also feel there are alot of inexperienced boaters on that lake also at least from what I've observed. Our lakes are becoming more and more dangerous all the time, it will be cold weather before I go to Nolin again. I had the same idiot the day I was there nearly wake me out of the boat twice in thirty minutes at CLOSE range. The guy was completely clueless and didn't even understand what he was doing wrong. It's a miracle there isn't a death on our waters every weekend with all the boats ripping and romping. Stay safe, Mark.

    RE: Nolin saturday night

i know what you all mean with idiots on the lake. i was rough last night fish up north at the mouth george's branch. anyone who knows where i'm talking about knows this point goes WAY out and is very shallow. it was almost dark you could barely see see and we're fishing the river channel side of the point with the hazard bouy. when this boat goes by us on the inside, into the mouth of the creek then starts cutting back out into the lake. we start screaming STOP THE BOAT at these idiots because their cutting straight for land. well if they hadn't been going about 25 MPH they would have been beached completely. after they hit i hear one of them say "oh that's why they were screaming." that point is nothing but jagged rock so i know they tore the crap out of the bottom of the boat. they come back back by us, across the point again of course and hit bottom again. so they finally stop and said thanks. i explained how freakin stupid they were for being out in water that they don't know and tell them to get the hell back to the ramp before the boat sinks. so the genius looks and he's taking on water like crazy. so what does he do? turns the bilge on and jumps in the lake to swim. about 30 minutes later on of the the other guys on the boat tells him that the bilge isn't keeping up. so the take off, across the point again. i pulled the boat in front of them to make him stop and he gets pissed and starts cussing me right as he beaches it again. stuck this time. he then asks if i have a rope and if i could pull him off. i did it and explained to him how stupid he is and he finally leaves. he might have been the biggest idiot i have ever seen on the water.

    RE: Nolin saturday night

I have witnessed numerous stupid acts on Nolin while fishing at nite. What you have on the lake now are inexperienced and/or drunk boaters. They probably only drive on the lake about one or two months a year and don't pay any attention what they are doing. My best advice is that if you are fishing a point on the main lake you better be ready to get your boat started and the get the hell out of there way. Doesn't seem right does it? Sometimes it's kind of funny to sit back and watch these people try to navigate at nite. You have to almost fish at nite defensively and be ready to react to somebody elses actions. My partner and I were fishing right in front of Red Rock one nite and this boat came up to within twenty feet of us and stops. They just sat there for about 30 minutes and looked to me like they were admiring the rock?? Another nite(about 1:00AM) I was fishing at the mouth of a creek and here comes this with no running lights pulling a skier. I have seen plenty of other almost incidents.
