Fished DH lower end Fri. night thru Sat morning. Boated 10 smallies 2lb to 5lb range. Punisher jig and Bitsy Bug on main lake points and bluffs with 20 ft. shelves. Quick released about 7 or 8 nice smallies. Any tips on how to lower the quick release number would be appreciated. What a special lake and trip again. Thanks to the folks of this board and the Good Lord. Thanks Dad.

Sounds like you all had a great trip. As far as the quick releases when a 3 or 4 pound brownie starts getting some major air time and throwing a fit it gets interesting to try and keep them on. I allways try and use the lightest wire hooks I can get away with and a rod with enough back bone to get a good hook set when they are down deep.Another thing about those quick releases is that they allways keep you guessing and motivated...... Maybe that was the new world record!?!?!? I believe it will come out of Dale Hallow. Keeps you coming back for more. Jarrod

I use a technique I learned as kid to keep bass from throwing the hook by jerking the fish just before the fish gets ready to surface and even as he jumps to bring him back into the water. It takes a stong rod to do this but I do not loose many jumping bass with this technique. As a kid I would cut off a foot of my rod tip so it would be stronger. It is just something I have done for years and it works for me.
