    Poor Cumberland night bite.

Fished Friday and Saturday night late through early morning hours, till the crazies woke up and then headed in. What has happened to my beloved lake, pooriest night bite I have seen in a long time. Saturday morning right after daybreak, I caught a few fish with one quality 19 inch laremouth on super fluke junior. Sunday morning caught several Kentucks and lost a nice 19 to 20 inch brown bass right by the boat goofing off with it trying to get some extra fight time out of her. You know what I mean when quality bites are coming at such a premium that you play the ones you get a little longer. She probably in the close to 4lb range or so, smashed a spook and I have no idea how it came off, when I looked down over the boat and decided to have a little extended fun,she had hooks all over her face. Oh well that's how it goes. Talked to several others and most said they were having the same luck as me with a couple of boats telling me they had not had a tap all night long. Did talk to one guy Saturday morning who had caught some nice fish, but he must have had some dynamite with him, because it was TOUGH out there. If you are thinking of Dale or the big C for night fishing I would go to Dale right now Cumberland is dead right now IMHO, tightlines Mark.

    RE: Poor Cumberland night bite.

Yeah I skipped a trip last week end to KY along the same lines. My dad had just come back and had one of the worst couple of nights he ever had on KY. Combination of hot temperatures and low current seemed to really shut them down. I have a feeling the late summer night bite will pick up but who knows? Sorry you didn't touch a few more...

Sounds like the same results from last couple of years. I can remember the mid-late 90's catching 10-15 smallies a night on a jig or a tube on main lake points and cuts from fall creek to difficulty creek. They'll be back. Were you primarily after smallies? What part of the lake were you fishing? Gonna start back after them soon, any help would be appreciated.

Yes I target smallies alot and was these nights. I was fishing in Indian, Whipperwill, Middlefork and Westfork creeks. Also some main lake points as well, good luck if you go and report back to us. If I hadn't had such a good April on the smalljaws this year I'd be worried about my ole lake. Tightlines Mark.
