Best part of it all is that he caught it on a FNF rod with 6lb test and a duck feather Punisher jig.

My buddy just called me from Jamestown marina where he saw a guy carrying a 41 lber. The fish was 48 inches, boys and gurls that's a good'en. Caught it today in the west end of the lake.

I would like to know how many 40#+ fish have been caught so far this year. I know of several brought in to Grider Hill, seem's like the Stripers are doing alright at Cumb.
Dave.
You know Dave, me and a buddy were just talking about that, I've heard of more 40 plus fish caught from the lake this year than I have in a long time, I wonder why? Oh well it's a good thing, like you said, it seems things are going well for them ole silver monsters.
Heck of a striper! How long does it take a striper to grow that big? I'm wondering if the recent increase in 40# stripers has something to do with the regs they put in place back in the 90's (2 fish at 24 inches rather than 5 at 15 inches)?

That could very well be it Andrew, kinda parallel to the other size limit post we have going don't ya think? What is your personal best? How about you Dave and Duayne what's you fellas best so far?
Hey Mr. Cress, seen your question on lc.com, thanks, that's a good picture of that beast.
My best is 32. I've had a few on that were bigger. Had one right at the side of the boat before it came unbuttoned.
The size and creel changes have helped some, but I think Cumberland is seeing a few more of the larger fish because people are spending more time in other areas than they used to. I know of several people that were still fishing in the creeks just a few weeks ago. The fish in the creeks are probably staying on a gizzard diet. A nice big gizzard is easier to catch, has more value and the fish expends less energy than when they are feeding on alewives. I'd say those fish will end up bigger for it. Part of the reason stripers sizes were bigger before was due to the rainbow diet. I would guess that if someone checked, they might find out that Cumberland is having a serge in the gizzard population and the stripers are taking advantage.

Interesting thoughts, where you been Duayne haven't seen you post in awhile. Hey nothing wrong with a 32 buddy that's a fine fish. Next spring we gotta get together so you can put me on that topwater night bite, later Mark.
Why would there be an increase in the gizzard shad population at the same time you guys say the stripers are more numeruos in the XL size. The purpose to stock the stripers in the first place was to control the gizzard shad big fish on the lake. Is that not true now?
Perhaps it is because the alewives were not present in the beginning. Now that they are now there and the preferred baitfish of the stripers the gizzard populations are now growing.
