Flurocarbon line with knot strength???

I have tried 12 lb Vanish on crank baits. Lose more fish than I land.
Has anyone found a flurocarbon in a 12# that is able to hold fish?
And also a Fluro to use on 1/4 oz. to 5/16 Jig. Yes i have adjusted
drag.Wet line before I seige it up.tried Palomar knots,trilene ,still
no luck I sent Vanish back to factory. Is there one out there with
better strength? I like the feel of Flurocarbon if I could find a
stronger one. Anybody found one????

I really think the problem is the Vanish line. I use the BPS brand and have had no problem. I will never, ever, ever use a Berkley line again. About 15 years ago i had problem after problem and started searching for a good line and found it with BPS excel and then tried their fluorocarbon and liked it as well. I don't really like the 14lb fluorocarbon because it is so stiff and more difficult to cast.

I haven't had any problems with the Vanish. I use it on several of my reels, including the two I use for wormin' and jiggin' and I love the sensitivity. Never had it break at the knot. Caught several in the 5-8 # range at my uncle's lake with no trouble(no, I can't tell ya'll where it is. lol). Try not setting the hook as hard because fluoro doesn't have much stretch, it's almost like braid. If you are fishing in brush, timber, or rock be careful. Fluoro is not very abrasion resistant and can't tolerate the heat that builds up when rubbing against stuff, especially itself. Make sure you get that knot REAL wet and help the loops down the line with the tip of your finger when tightening. I use the improved trilene knot and it has worked fine for me. As far as throwing lighter baits, that is almost all I use with my jigs and t-rigged worms. Again, no problems there either. Are you using baitcasters or spinning reels? 12# Vanish hasn't worked well for me on spinning gear. I use some 4# on one of my ultralights but other than that only on bc's. I haven't paid attention lately, but when it first came out it had pictures of the types of reels it would work best on on the back of the box. I'm at work now so it would be hard to check right now. I do know that when it did have those pictures, 12# did not have a picture of a spinning reel. Hope some of that will help you. If not try the BPS brand. I've heard plenty of people that like it. Can you use 12 lb XPS and it hold up with Excel Monofilament? What about Stronger Flurocarbon on Jigs In brush?

I use P-line exclusily and have had no problems except user error on broken lines. I retie after and hang up and landed fish that is a decent size, just test it in between. Tie with the trilene knot, and have yet to break at the knot. Pline does retain alot of memory, but a couple squirts of van dams line conditioner works wonders.

i use 10 & 15lb test. mostly 15.

I have only used fluoro as a leader w/braid as my main line for c-riggin' and have only broke off when I hung and intentionally tried to break it. Other than with the braid I have not used a fluro leader. I don't see why you couldn't use a heavier fluoro for jiggin'. It's smaller in diameter than the same # test mono so your reels would probably still hold a sufficient ammount for long casts and if you're jiggin' you're pobably not making that long of a cast anyway. Good luck with your line woes. Been there and now I pretty much only use Trilene XL, XT, Vanish, Excel, and Spiderwire Stealth braid. I know those aren't everyone's favorites but they've proven themselves for me. Hope you find something you like.

I personally like Fluoro in the 8lb test on my spinning rod the best. The 12lb thats on my baitcaster is my 2nd choice but other than that i don't use Fluoro as my main line. I like the 14lb for my leader when using braid on my c-rig. If i used mono to flip with it would be 17lb minimum and it would be Excel.
My flippin stick has 50lb Power Pro braid and i love it. I also use the same for my frog fishing. I know if you ask 5 people what the best line is for each technique you will get 5 different answers so do what we all do, get all the opinions and suggestions you can handle and then try it for yourself. My final decision was based on cost (BPS Excel is low cost and a quality line) availability (Walmart sells Power Pro) and what has proven itself to me (XPS Fluoro worked better for me after trying several other brands) Good luck with your search.

I wasn't aware Stren made a Flurocarbon. I like Extra Strength Stren
in the grey box myself.

I love vanish line personally. i use it on both spinning and baitcasting reels up to 17lb test. you have to keep line conditioner on it, but from what i read you have to do that with all flouro's. the only other one i've tried is BPS flouro and i hated it. so until vanish fails me that's what i'll stick with. you just have to make sure and check your line often and keep line conditioner on it, but again that's all flouro's.
