I have to make a sad jouney today. One of my best friends and mentors has passed away and I will be traveling back to Frankfort to give my last respects.
Ron Schureman passed away Sunday after a short battle with cancer. Ron retired a few years back from Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife where he was assistant director of wildlife. I met Ron over 20 years ago and it was through my association with him during my military years that I made the decision that when I retired from the military I would spend the rest of my life working in the outdoors.
Most of you probably never even heard of this man before, but I can tell you he spent his life as a champion of the sportmen of this state, working hard behind the scenes at KDFW to ensure that we outdoor types would be able to enjoy the great hunting and fishing our state offers. There is not a one of you that hunts or fishes in this state has not benefited from Ron's lifetime of dedication to KDFW.
For those of you that did know Ron, I am sure you will agree with me that if there ever was a "John Wayne" of the Ky outdoorsmen it was Ron Schureman.
Information about visitation and funeral plans can be found at www.harrodbrothersfuneralhome.com Online condolences may be left on that site for Ron's family.
