Thoughts/opinions on G-Loomis rods

Thinking of purchasing a couple bluegill rods for my wife/I and was looking at the G-Loomis rods. I do not own any Loomis rods and was hoping for some thoughts from you guys that own them and also where to purchase? Also, if you have had any problems has Loomis customer service been OK to deal with.

I am looking at an ultra-light rod in the 6' range.

If it weren't for the price tag my whole aresenal would be G-Loomis.

They are probably one of the most sensitive rods I have ever used and there warranty is excellent. I'm told if it breaks for any reason - your fault or theirs you can take your rod and $20 to a dealer and get a brand new one on the spot.

I have a loomis spinner bait rod and I love it. I have asked Santa for another loomis for Christmas, but I will have to wait and see.

I know that Backwaters in Somerset carries them and although I have never dealt with them I am told they are an A 1 business and the tackle store in Bronston between Somerset and Monticello used to carry them.

There are no better rods in my opinion. Even with the high $ cost, the warranty evens it out. Backwaters in Lex sells and services GLoomis.

Gotem and Lovem but a Loomis just for bluegill,I think you could save alot of money and still get a good rod to bluegill with.But if you got it go getem.

Max,

I have two G-Loomis rods. I like how light they are. Don't really wear my arm out as badly.

However about the warranty. It kind of depends on which model you get for the warranty mentioned. They highest quality rod is exactly as described, but some of the less expensive rods don't have the same warranty, but it is still a good one.

I also agree that for bluegill, you could get another brand ultra-light and save some serious green!!

I have had a loomis for about 7 years, and although I have bought several good rods since it is still my favorite. I have felt hits at 25 ft deep with an 1/8 oz. weight on my texas rig without any problem. None better IMO.

I would like to know what you think of the sr720. My question is since this rod is a "zero" power is the rod going to be a "buggy whip".

No, it will not be a 'buggy whip', Its a mod fast (so it will flex in the upper 1/3rd of the blank)... do not confuse action with power... the power (0) simply means that it will start to flex with less wieght (in this case, 1/32oz is enough)... Action is where it flexes back.

Personally, I'd chose the SJR720 instead... its what they call a mag light (I have 2 in the boat now) with a extra fast action... so it will handle a little more weight (1/32 to 1/4) and will have less flex (so therefore more sensitive and more backbone)...

I just went and looked at their website and the rods appear to be similar and it looks like the sjr720 would work better?? I think I may be at a point where I need to put the 2 rods in my hand side by side and compare?

What do you use the sjr720 for and what type of set-up is it on?

I own 3 and fish with 2 of them quite a bit. My favorite rod is a 6'6" MH baitcaster. I purchased it in 1987 and it has always been my favorite fishing rod. They are awesome rods... However, IMO, I think I would buy a $25 rod from Walmart for bluegill fishing.

My wife and I use the 720 for bluegill fishing!... primarily we use it for baby cranks... paired up with quantum energy pt-10 spinning reels and 6# test... have used them for doll flys and red-wigglers too.

the one thing about the SJR compared to the SR, is that you are more likely to find it in our local shoppes... not many carry the Loomis "panfish" models (not that they cant get them, but, well, ya'know).
