    Cumberland for 1/6 and 1/7

Finally got out and did some fishing. Headed out Saturday morning before daylight. Pulled up on first point and on the fifth cast hooked a dude. It was just starting to get daylight, I got the fish within 6 to 8 inches of the surface and lost it. Looked like a big largemouth to me but could have been a smaller striper, it had shoulders whatever it was. Trolling batteries conked out on me early, I was off the lake by 2.30. Remind me to never buy Deka deep cycles anymore. Ended up with several smallmouth with the biggest being a 20 inch 4lber. Sunday morning heading across the main lake with 2 and 3 foot rollers, wind was absolutely howling and this was well before daylight. Go to wind protected areas I know in my favorite creeks. First point less than 10 casts, BAM, another 4lb., brown bass. Ten minutes after daylight, second point, BAM, another 4lb., brownie. Then a LDR on another keeper about 15 minutes after that, dang it. Then a 18 1/2 inch smalljaw, followed by another long distance release on a for sure keeper fish, dang it. Then a 15 inch fattie that looked like it swallowed a baseball. This fish was only 15 inches and I bet it would have weighed 2 1/2lb or better, I mean FAT. A few more smaller ones then headed home, I was off the water by 11:00 a.m., the rain was setting in by then pretty hard. My bite was over both mornings by 10:00 a.m. or so and I struggled to get bit after that. Drove home in a hurricane of rain, that's always fun to drive a 140 miles by yourself in a absolute flood. Water on main lake gin clear, water in the creeks had some nice color, the farther back you go to the heads of the creek the more color you can find. Talked to alot of guys that were fishing the heads of the creeks for largemouth and Ky's, I chose to chase Mr. Brown, my favorite fish that swims. Some fellas was catching fish and some guys were getting blanked, nobody I talked to were setting the world on fire. Water temps in the low 50's most places, I had one guy tell me they had 57 degrees in the head of one of the creeks they were in, they only had a few dinks and one barely keeper green fish. All in all not great but not bad, and I had fun and that's the main thing, till next time tightlines to all, Mark.

Went there myself on Saturday (1/6). Didn't get on the water until about 9:00. Fished FnF mainly in the creeks where there was some color. Had 7 fish on, landed 6. 2 keeper LM, 2 short LM, 1 short SM and 1 22" SM which was only my third fish ever on the FnF. We headed off the lake around 1:00 PM.

If I'm not staying with my mother and father in law which has a place down there I will stay at Anchors Inn, formally Bandits, or I have stayed at Shilos in Russell Springs because it's cheap. But over the years I've stayed at almost everywhere down there. I recommend Anchors Inn, the rooms are clean, comfortable and roomy. They also have a restaurant right beside where you are staying that has some pretty good doggone grub to eat. The guy that use to own Bandits, Dennis lives next door to all this and runs a bait shop, and has some of the friskiest shad on the lake to buy if you need live bait. Reasonably priced for mentioned above too, hope this helps. Oh yea located on the right heading towards Jamestown Marina.

Good job gurl what did that 22 inch weigh, that one had to be 5 or so maybe better than five, nice fish. I did not fish the fly I probably should have as my bite I was on was useless after mid morning. That dang thing just's put me to sleep. I'm gonna hogtie Shadrap here pretty soon and take him with me so he will make me fish that ole fly all day, then maybe I'll get better at it.

We didn't have a scale and I'm not a good judge visually, so I'd hate to make a guess. At the time we were thinking 4.5 or so. It was a pretty thin fish, but long.

This was only the second time I've tried the FnF. I've never had anyone show it to me, so I may not even be doing it right. I will say this, landing a fish that size on 4 lb line is pretty challenging...especially without a net which we forgot to bring.

I do not own a digital camera, my wife does, and won't let me take it fishing, LOL. However I have some really good ones I took with a regular cheapy camera and they turned out real good. So I've got some just don't know how to let you see'em. Oh by the way she won't let me take her camera because I ruint her Video camera years ago filming deer with it, LOL. :+

I actually have that picture from Fishgurl. It's a nice one. It's thin though. Once I get some things lined out I will be posting all F-n-F fishing pictures on the Floatandfly.com forum page.

The 8+ Smallmouth Pic should be emailed to me today. I'll be sure and send it to JD to be placed on the font page.

26" and a girth of 21 is the report that I have. I'm sort of wanting to see this one myself, lol.
