Float-n-fly + pond = crappie

Since I haven't been hearing any great fishing reports at Cumberland or Dale I took the float and fly rod to a pond today. Just cast the fly with no float, reeled very slowly. I caught about a dozen nice crappie in about 1 1/2 hrs. No monsters but it helped with the cabin fever a bit and it's a lot of fun fighting those crappie with the long float-n-fly rod. They seem to love the float and flies better than the standard crappie jigs. I know this is not an exiting report but if your bored and have some time hit a pond this winter. Bass like them in ponds also but only scored crappie today.

As of a couple days ago, Long Run Park and Miles Park here in Louisville were still frozen over. If one of them thaws by Wednesday, I'll be out there. I'm especially anxious to check out Miles Park. I still can't believe they started putting hybrid bass in that little bitty pond!

where do you think the idea for f-n-f came from, crappie fishermen been doing it for decades, congrats on the catch, dab a little corn meal on em and throw em in the pan

Hey what's the story on Miles Park....is it a good little fishin' hole? Where is Miles Park and Long Run Park? Which would you say is the better of the two??? I've got some new gear to try out before I hit Kentucky Lake in about a week and might make a quick trip to one of those two lakes in the meantime.........

Miles Park is almost directly across the street from the main entrance to Valhalla Golf Course on Shelbyville Rd (Eastwood). I've never been there, but here's some info...

Miles Park Pond #4 and Tom Wallace Lake in Fairdale are part of the Urban Fishing Program. Starting in '05 (I think it was) they've been stocking them with largemouth, bluegill, and catfish. I've caught a few largemouth just barely bigger than fingerlings in there. The great thing, though, is that in April and September they stock them with trout. For about a month or so afterwards, you can catch a limit pretty easily, and it's a great place to take kids, at least Miles is (I've never fished the other one). It doesn't get as crowded as you might expect. Then in September and October of last year, they put hybrid bass in there. They said they put about 300 per acre, and they're 8-12" long. That would be about 1200 hybrids. Seems weird that they would put them in such a small lake, and I have to wonder if they'll eat up all the smaller trout that get stocked?
