    Crappie Lake Suggestion????

My son is wanting to go crappie fishing in the next couple weeks and I need some help on where to take him. We usally make a couple trips to Cumberland early in the year to fish for crappie and since I have bass fished the lake for many years we catch a few and have a good day on the water. Anyway, this year with the water being so low I don't know of any cover for us to try. Therefore, I am wondering what other lake we should give a try instead. While I have fished many of the major lakes around Kentucky for bass I really don't have a clue on the crappie situation on many of these lakes. Therefore, I am looking for some advice on where we should go this year. I am not looking for spots or anything like that, just wanting to know which lake would be a good choice for us to spend some time on the water. Some potential lakes would be: Taylorsville, Barren, Nolin or Green River. Any thoughts or suggestions of where we might drown some minnows and catch a few fish would be greatly appreciated. PM me or email at [email protected]. Thanks in avance.

I've caught some really nice crappie at Taylorsville and more numbers at Nolin Lake...I've only caught them on minnows, never had any luck on crappie jigs yet. That's one little bait I want to learn how to catch crappie on in the future..... G/L

If it's not too far for you go to dale hollow. I've not fished it much but have caught some real nice crappie out of there. I will definetly be back there for some slabs in a few weeks.

    Cool Re: Crappie Lake Suggestion????

Barren has some nice crappie on it. I have caught many a nice crappie on Taylorsville with jigs. MSG some time we might get together to fish Taylorsville and I will help you out on the jigs. I have had better luck with them than with minnows.

    Marty,
Might want to try Cave Run. The crappie fishing the past couple of years has been good. Taylorsville is good for crappie and bluegills. I have done well on Cumberland and Green River also.

    Re: Crappie Lake Suggestion????

I catch crappie at Barren year round. Ive never done much spring crappie fishing on Barren, but I reckon it to be good. I got a honey hole on Barren for summertime crappie. All I'll say is to follow bluff walls with suspended minnows. You'll be lible to catch a few stripers too, so hang on.

As for springtime crappie, I was at Cave Run 2 years ago and caught more than I knew what to do with, but couldnt get a single one to bite the same time last year.....darn!

I can't believe no one has mentioned Rough River, it getting hot right now, my uncle has be catching near Eveley ramp off the bank, he says they are getting nice some females but mostly males up first. If i wasn't headed to Dale Fri i'd be on Rough

Good Luck.....remember its better for the little one to catch some fish even if its bluegills...that will keep his interest.
