Sounds like Oil injection system to me. At idle speed, no alarm, but rev the engine up and the alarm goes off.
A friendly word of advice IF it is the oil injection system: It costs at least $600 or more to fix it. There's a plastic gear on the crank that is the cause of 99% of oil injection problems on Mercs. The part costs about $5, and the rest is labor in tearing the engine down to the crank.
The easy and cheap way is to start mixing oil in your gas. Simply disconnect the injection system, and mix it.
The injection system in Mercs is crap. I like the engines, but hate the injection system. I got a 200 EFI last year, and the first thing I did was take the injection system off of it. Mixing is idiot proof. If it's getting gas, it's getting oil.
If you want the name of a good mechanic that I HIGHLY recommend to check it out for you, let me know. He's in Charlestown, so he's not too far from you. I've used him a couple of times, and he's also worked on friends boats. Everyone has always been 100% satisfied with his work.
Before you start unhooking anything ,is it under warranty? If not then look at a cheap fix.
Also if it is not doing it at idle it could be fuel flow restriction. Check for a kink in fuel line or maybe filter needs changed
Stupid answer too, make sure you dont have water in your oil reservoir. This happen on my Yamaha, same thing it was due to some water had gotten in the oil. Cost me $2500 overhaul.....stupid me...
What year motor is it?
The Motors a 2001.. think Ill double the oil for the weekend and take it to the shop... thanks for the advice fellas
the easy thing to check is the oil reservoir under the cow. sometimes this gets low and the float will move around when up on plain. also the float can stick. this is the most common problem with these engines. i have seen people spend alot of money for a simple problem. check this out and see if it will fix it.
there is a sensor on the line in the oil tank in the boat these get gummed up & dirty sometimes especially if you run it low on oil. unscrew this it from the tank take it out & wash it off with gas .its a stem with ascreen on the end. i've had this happen to me couple of times once on 150 merc xr4 & a merc 225 efi. hope this helps.
