Okeechobee and low water!

I talked to a good freind today that lives on the rim canal at Lakeport. His boat house is high and dry the boat lift sitting on the bottom. If you do go thru the lock to the main lake you get out and walk, not even airboats can get out. For those that know of the "monkey box" area it is mostly just inches deep. This is caused by a draught in the whole area.
He and a buddy have been going down to the everglades and catching over 200 Oscars a day there is no limit. He say's the Gators are everywhere looking for water.
And we thought we had it bad on Cumberland.

The drought hasn't helped matters but all those lakes are dry mostly due to the fact they drew them down last year for hurricane season and the hurricanes didn't happen. If they would just leave mother nature alone she would have plenty water in the lakes but got to keep from inconviencing a few if the lakes were to rise a little.

Seems like a good thing in the long run. If the bottom stays exposed and starts to dry out the muck, maybe the new hard bottom will support weeds and grasses. Remember that years ago the lake was so full of muck that it was killing the vegetation especially since the hurricanes turned the lake over and over? The huge fields of pencil reeds and cattails have been disappearing for years maybe this will expedite the renewal process?
