    Tube Bait Fishing

I am fairly new to fishing with tube baits. What rod/reel setup does everyone use? I am currently using a cheap spinning rod and reel. 6' 6" MH rod with a reel spooled with 8 lb. test. I would like to upgrade to a more sensitive rod and a better reel. I feel more comfortable with spinning gear. Any recommendations, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It kinda of depends. Open water finesse you are OK. But if you plan to flip you may have a little trouble. I use a 7' bait casting rod with 14# for just about everything. I use a 6'6" spinning rod with 10# for finesse fishing. I hope this helps you out. Ryan.

Just my opinion, Tim... Buy a quality baitcaster. For tossing a tube, I would opt for a MH 6'6" rod with a fast tip. Take it out in the yard and practice casting and flipping until you feel comfortable. When you get on the lake and you're catching good bass, you'll be glad you're catching them with a baitcasting rod. It's much easlier to land a 5 pounder with a baitcasting rod n reel... As a side note, my biggest bass ever caught in this state came on a tube jig. An 8 pounder in late August about 5 years ago.

I say fish with wat your comfortable with. I use em all. Most of my tube fishin is done on a 6' medium spinning reel and a light reel. Sometimes i spool with 6 lb for cold water and hot. post spawn i go to 8lb. I just caught a 6+ Lm last Saturday and got the fish in with no problem just have to play em a bit. But I am comfortable using that gear and like it. To each his own. Did Billy Westmoreland use baitcasters for bass?

I mostly use a spinning setup, but do use bait cast with them at times. I use a Kistler LTA 6' 6" MH fast tip (He66MHS) if you want sensitivity, great feel and very lightweight-this is the rod for you! Reel I use Quantum. Line mostly Berkley 8-12lb xl.

Hope this helps ya. Good luck fishing!

what uk fishin said for flippin,i like the 6'10 falcon eakins jig rod or the 6'10 shimano mhvy.3\16 oz 3\0 wide gap 14lb line in less cover.with the smoothness of baitcasters now you don't need a spinning rod unless you are very lite or just like them.
