For cleaning cork grips, try this......

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Read about it on another board and decided to give it a try. Totally removed 8 years worth of grime from 8 rods in about 10 minutes and I hardly had to work at it. Slickest thing I've ever seen for cleaning cork. About $2.80 for a 2-pack at the grocery store in the cleaning dept. Just wet the eraser and rub off the dirt. Super stuff.

Can't wait to try it! I've always used a water/bleach mixture. It works well but your little trick looks better for sure... Thanks for the tip, man...

yeah, this stuff works magic on all kinds of surfaces. I tried everything to remove magic marker that my nephew decided to put on my bedroom wall. Just a couple of swipes with the Mr. Clean and it was gone. I'm sure it would work well cleaning exterior of your boat as well.

Nice thing about this is that it won't remove any of the cork while cleaning.
