could be the fuel pump bad and it could be the anti siphon valve on the fuel tank fitting, had to replace mine 2 times in 3 years, the one now has 6 years on it with no problems.can also be the vent causing a vacuum in the tank.

Ok guys I have been running my 96 225 johnson venum since march with no problems fished a torney today it ran fine up the river for five miles when I went to go back to the dock she plained out and then bit the dirt. Come to find out the fuel line would not keep the gas under pressure, replaced fuel line and new hand bulb pump. What else could be the problem.
thanks brad

how do you tell that the siphon valve is bad
I had the same problem with my 200 Vindicator. Try holding the bulb vertical(straight up and down) and pump the bulb, It should stay tight. If it does you may have to arrange things so the bulb stays upright, I did. Make sure you DON'T put the wal-mart brand bulb on it. Go to a dealer and get the evinrude bulb. They are like $12. I haven't had one problem after I did these things. Hope this helps.
