    Lake rage????

Alright in reference to the road rage that just took place in Louisville, how long before somebody goes O.J. on one of these inconsiderate dumba$$es on the water washing people up on the bank? Such as the post about Herrington or the Cabin Cruiser idiots I'm always encountering at Cumberland. I think anybody buying a cabin cruiser should have to take a minium of 12 hours of class on what to do and not to do on the water. Then they should have to pass an on the water driving test, and then carry a license, or sited if not having one upon being checked by water patrol. I will never understand why somebody wants to run ocean vessels on inland lakes. If it is necessary than they need to know what that freaking 9 foot swell they throw out of the back will do. I don't carry my pistol with me on the lake for good reason and it's so I won't end up at the Kentucky State Reformatory. I've certainly wanted to put some idiots horizontal on the lake before. My rant is now over, how long before somebody gets blasted????

Well, if any damage is done, the operators of those boats producing 9 foot swells will have to pay for it....until any damage is done, there's not a lot you can do. I practically grew up on a houseboat, an average size one, and have cussed those monsterous cruisers many times for making us rock and roll when meeting them going down the lake...it's no fun when your dishes fall out of the cabinets!!! I have gotten payback a time or two....there's nothing like later finding one of those idiots anchored in cove, especially at 6 a.m.! I was able to make about 10 laps around one boat before the guy finally woke up and came out shouting! I just smiled and waved, and then made 10 more! That guy was furious!!!! The look on his face was priceless!

When I was about 13, a buddy's dad took he and I nite fishin on Herrington. These guys kept coming up and trying to roll us on the bank in a big i/o runabout, drunk as skunks and yelling at us. Well my buddy's old man reached in the rod box and took out this pistol grip .410 with rock salt shells. These boys came back around a 3rd time, when they turned, he hit them in the hull 2 or 3 times with that rock salt; scared the pi$$ out of both of us and the boys in the runabout as well. If that wasnt 'lake rage', I dont know what is!

I've been in a small 14' row boat and had fishermen in bass boats go past at 1/4 throttle and just about swamp my family and me. No 'excuse me' or anything. I've been in a closed bow 15' boat, fish on the line (a nice one too, I might add) and had a bass boat cross within 20' of my stern throwing a huge wave. I had to drop the rod and steady the boat so my family would be safe. Idiots drive all sizes of boats. You may be small compared to a cruiser, but you're big compared to a row boat. Everyone should watch what size wave they're throwing. This world needs less rage and more courtesy towards their fellow man, land or sea. Turn the other cheek?

Amen Rich. Haven't heard anybody screaming about a bass boat passing within 20 feet of you at 70 mph. Those who live in glass houses?

    Re: Lake rage????

Today at a PondHopper event we had a fella in a full sized bassboat cruising around with his bow nose up. Doing this creats one heck of a wake and these small Jon Boats rock and roll pretty good from knuckleheads like that.
I'm sure he was trying to be considerate but in his effort he made it tough on us. An idle was too slow for him and full speed would have been unsafe with all the boats in the upper reaches of the lake. It takes all kinds...

Since we are on te subject, I was at Herrington just last nite and just before wegh in for the Gwinn Island Friday Niter here come a bass boat around a bend on the wrong side of the lake and just about run me over so close i got hit with spray. Now this guy knows who he is cos he almost stopped but then decided hell no I got to get to weigh in. I dont like to wish mis-fortune on anyone but I hope he never catch's another fish. And if ya read this and you are him, I must say you are one big dumbass.

I think people don't realize that a boat at 1/4 throttle is 10 times worse than at full throttle. It was rough a couple of times today with that same boat. Be safe out there.

    Re: Lake rage????

About 15 years ago we were down at Fishing Creek on Cumberland having a nice, lazy afternoon on our houseboat. A very large cabin cruiser came up the creek throwing a 4-5 ft. wake. My fishing boat ( with my dad in it ) was thrown all the way up the rail on the houseboat and my dad hit the side window of the houseboat cracking it from one end to the other. I took out my binoculars and wrote down the numbers and description of the large cabin cruiser. We went straight up to Lee's Ford in the small boat to find the water patrol officer who had gone by just a few minutes earlier. He took the numbers and came to look at our houseboat; went down the lake and found the larger vessel and cited the driver of the vessel. It was quite an effort to get the window fixed but everything was eventually taken care of thanks to the water patrol guy. I think of that episode everytime I hear of someone getting thrown on the bank by an irresponsiible boater. Many of them need the "heat" thrown to them!
