    Nolin accident

Heard about a serious accident on Nolin last night near Red Rock, between a bass boat and a pontoon. One of the guys in the bass boat is in very serious condition. Good luck to all and be very careful out there, Tom.

I heard about the accident from a friend. There were two adults and two kids on the pontoon that were not hurt. One of the persons in the bass boat was thrown from the boat but is supposidly OK. The other person on the bass boat was flown out on a stat flight and their condition was unknown as they were not sure where the person was taken.

Evidently, the pontoon boat was anchored with its lights on and the bass boat didn't see them. The pontoon boat has a double deck and the bass boat hit the back of the pontoon and drove up on the pontoon between the two decks.

Sure hope the injured person will be fine after injuries heal. But there is no sense in running full bore at night on a lake, no matter how well you know the water.

That area of the lake has a lot of turns in it to. It can be bad during the daytime.

I heard from a relative of the injured person that the pontoon did not have its lights on. Whichever is true, there is no need to run wide open after dark. Is there a speed limit at night? I have seen this debate in a previous thread, but don't remember the answer...if there was one. I can't find anything in the boating regs, but I have not spent a lot of time searching.

Correct not in KY....Indiana has had one in place, and it prevents terrible things like this from happening....Really surprised when I moved to KY, that there was no speed limit after dark.....Just asking for wrecks to happen and for people to get hurt.....

    Re: Nolin accident

I believe the boating law prevents use of headlights while running due to the possibility of blinding the other guy.

    Re: Nolin accident

actually the headlights may be good for the boat with them, but saturday night running up southfork i came up on a pontoon with 2 real bright headlights,i had to stop to an idle becaue in the light fog it did nothing but blind me,for a short time afterwards too.Not trying to say anyone is at fault or not but it is very hard to see the front lights on a toon unless it is coming straight at you, then since the white light is mounted high they sometimes blend in with the house lights on the bank. And by the way i was only running about 35mph at the fastest.if you use headlights please angle them so they aren't so blinding or turn them off when you meet another boat.personally i have been with guys who believe you ne a few million candle power to see where you are going and i feel it is harder to see with it..jmo.
