    A very smelly pickle

I went fishing thursday, right in the middle of a very torrenial downpour at Taylorsville. After which, I fished for a few more minutes and I threw all my wet gear and leftover bait and went on home. When I got home, I completly forgot about my gear and instead, went right inside and changed out of my wet clothes.
I tell you that to get to this. When I went out to my car the next day and sat down, my car had the most awful odor ever inside of it. The first thought I had was that something died in my car. Then I remember my equipment in my trunk, and when I opened it up, all my equipment laid there, wet, and the chicken liver I had fished with the day before lay open and spilled in my trunk. YUCK!!!
Now I am opening up World War III on this odor (which I have nicknamed The Pipeline from Hell), and NOTHING works! The air fresheners only mask the odors and make it smell worse. Have any of you guys ever had this happen to you and if so, what did you guys do to stop the odor? ANY and all info would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar incident happen to me. I spilled turkey juice in the back of my car. I had it detailed and that did not help. A friend of mine told me to place 2 bowels of vinegar in the car close to where it was spilled. I would change them out after several hours. I did this for several days and it took care of the smell. Good luck Ryan.

Remove the lining and hang outside to air out also wipe the trunk with white vinegar. We had a gallon of milk spill in ours on the way home from Wally world, and this worked for us

take the coffee grounds out of your coffee maker (used grounds) that are still damp. spread a 1in thick layer over the spill and leave it till the groungs dry out, then vac them out. works for me.

You need to re-activate the area where the livers spilled in order to remove it. Fill a spray bottle with clear water and spray until the area is thoroughly wet. Let it set for about 5 minutes. Then wipe it dry it with paper towels. If the stinky area is on carpet, do the same but after wiping up the water, spray with "409 Carpet Cleaner," work it into the carpet with a wet sponge or brush. Then dry the area with paper towels. Whether the area is a liner or carpet, as a last step, cover it with Arm&Hammer Baking Soda and leave it for a few days. I've done that and it worked for me.

If, for some strange reason, it doesn't work for you, as a last resort I recommend a gallon of gas and a box of matches or........trading cars with your mother-in-law.

I have used some of the commercial deer scent products to some success.. By that I mean the descent stuff that is supposed to keep your scent from getting into the air.. It does not mask as much as change the chemical structure.. ALSO I bought a small device that I plug into my lighter that puts negative ions into the air.. that knocks the smell down inside the car. Good Luck..

    Re: A very smelly pickle

    Thanks guys!
I havent tried anything yet, I think I'm going to go with the coffee grounds idea, its the easiest and most economical. I'll keep going with ideas till I find one that works.
Right now the smell is masked. Its like if your dog goes to the bathroom on your floor and you go to clean it up with lysol...its that kind of hybrid smell right now.

    Hey Cranker,

I know I am a little late, but you know, better late than never.

There are at least three things that have worked for me that have not been mentioned.

    1) Baking Soda

    2) Charcoal

    3) Old wadded up newspapers will absorb the smell too.

    Good luck.

    Danny

    Re: A very smelly pickle

If none of these have worked just pour kitty litter on it any thing that will absorbe cat Pi$$ will cut anything. Let it stay for a few days and then vacumn. works great for any odors in a closed in area. Cabnet makers use this trick to remove the smell of stain and varnish from inside of cabinets

Danny- Thanks, the coffee grounds made an ungodly mess, plus my car has a faint coffee smell now. Maybe the newspaper wont be so messy
