Vegatation Location on Barkley and KYL

I'm heading down to the Northern Half of Barkley and KYL this coming weekend. Any recommendations on where I could find some productive vegitation? I prefer bays on the Land between the lakes side if possible North of 68 but can fish either lake. Hoping to catch a few fish early and late on Frogs and Buzzbaits. I rarely see vegitation in Central Kentucky lakes I fish so I'm hoping for a treat.

With the water having been pulled down a foot over the last week a lot more of it is now on the surface....if you don't see it rest assurred there is some under the surface. Again, the further south you go the more you will see both above and below the surface.

Like Dave said, if you want alot of grass you really need to go south on KY Lake. Definitely need to be south of the 68 bridge for the better grass beds.

Vickers Bay has grass in about 15 feet of water... well that was about three weeks ago, so I am guessing it would be around 14 feet or so. The grass is back in the bay off the points.

The best bay I found was a small bay just south of the 68 bridge. I launched at Fenton. I have never fished the bay before that day, but something just pulled me in. The water was murkey out on the mid point in the bay... this was a point dividing the bay in two main sections. As I moved further back in the northern fork, it became clearer than I had ever seen. Based upon images I looked up on the internet it looked to by hydrilla. The water was about 2 to 3 feet over the grass. I caught fish on topwaters until about 1 PM in the afternoon, and the skies were high and blue. Lots of big fish in the bay also. I caught them on buzzbaits like you mentioned, but also several on Zoom Horny Toads.

I have never fished water that clear. They hit flukes that day, well just about anything, but it had to be a very long cast because of how clear the water was. The largest fish were taken on the inside edges of the grass between the grass and shore. Some huge ones... well huge for me anyway...LOL

BTW, I have a lot of the chatterbaits. Why is another story, but I swam the more natural colored ones above the grass on long casts, and they too drew the strikes.

    Good luck,

    Danny

I looked at a map this morning and it looks like I need to stay down near Aurora if I'm to fish this far south and not kill alot of boat gas.

Do you guys think I might do better fishing the KYL vegitation vs. say fishing creek channels in Carmack, Deunumbers, etc.???

Depends on what you're comfortable fishing. SKY grass bite has been number strong for about a month but now its starting to get some quality fish moving in it. TNT two weeks ago was won with 20 and some change out of the grass on SKY. However, the NBarkley bite on structure is real strong as well, both areas seem to be the best of the whole chain at this time, so thats a tough decision but it just depends on what you want to do. Good luck.

If you go to the first bay south of Little Bear on KY, there is a ton of vegetation in the water, I mean it is THICK. This is on the end of the lake you are looking for and I saw a guy pull a couple of fish out of the water and into his live well in about 15 minutes of fishing early in the morning skimming a frog over the geen stuff.
