Jigs

I am a fairly young fisherman and the past year I have started to fish more and more jigs and I have a simple question ... What is the difference between the football jig head and the finesse jig head, same weight same weedgaurd but when should I throw the football and when should I throw the finesse or is there any pro/con to either?

personally i feel i have a harder time getting a football head through heavy brush,i like them if i am on gravel or where you can just drag it along and use a heavy weight jig 5\8 or bigger.since i don't have the funds to buy a lot of different jigs i mainly use the d&l jig with the standard style head.at nolin a few weeks ago it didn't matter i caught as many on the d&l as the chompers football as long as it was the same color.

FB head only really excels over other jigs when like whiskers said you are drgging it over chunk rock. The angle and the eye make the body of the jig stand up when it comes in contact with something. For flipping, fishing brush, grass, most any other application, I use the standard d&L head.

I fish the football jigs on ledges and points that are primarly chunk rock with some cover. Fish it just like a carolina rig with a slow drag and short pops when it hangs up.
