Flemming Marine - Greenville, KY ??

    Hey folks,

Has anyone here ever had any motor work done by Flemming? Are they still in business even? I have met both Mr. and Mrs. Flemming, and really liked them both, and have bought plenty of things from them, but am thinking of having some motor work done.

I have a 225 Opti, and my tach is messing up. Sometimes it just jumps all over the place. The first time it happened, the dealer replaced my hub, and it seemed to work fine. However, by the end of the season, it was doing the same thing again. I changed the hub myself this time. It did not help at all. In fact, when the motor is idleing, it is showing 1,000 rpms more than normal. The motor is not supposed to exceed 5,800 rpms, and the last time this happened, it showed that I did. However the techs. at the dealer hooked it up to the computer, and it showed it had never exceeded the max rpms.

At max rpms, the boat runs, well, me alone I stop at about 79 mph, because I think that was fast enough, and that was measured with my GPS. I was still increasing speed. Now at 45-55 mph, my tach will show the 5800 rpm, and will exceed well over 6000 rpm at around 60 mph, just like it did before. Also, sometimes while I'm running, the tach will drop back down to where it should be, which would seem like maybe the hub. But I feel there is something else wrong. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them, and if anyone can give any positive or negative stuff about Flemming, I appreciate it. However, if it is negative, no need doing it in public, please either pm me or email me.

    Thanks everyone,

    Danny

    Thanks TrophyHunter,

I called them this morning, and they don't work on opti-maxes. They reccomended someone in Madisonville, KY. Since I have to take it out of town, I will take it to my dealer, whom I really, really trust. I bought the boat at Jet-A-Marina, and just got off the phone with them. I am thinking I should get the boat down there now, while the heat wave is going on... LOL Mike and I have worked on this a couple of times, as I previously mentioned, changing out the hubs. He thinks it may be the tachometer itself now, and gave me a "soft" estimate, my words, not his. I know I have a lot of faith in Mike!!

On another note, I just found out that Jet-A is opening a second store. They are opening a new store in Clarksville, TN. He said it should be open in the next 30 days or so. That's some good news for them for sure, and those who live a little further south.

They are now pretty much Genmar only boat dealers. They still have Ranger, but also now have Stratos and Lowe.

While I can't afford it right now, once we move to Cadiz, my wife has promised I can get a new Ranger!!!! LOL.. now if I can just get that money to pay for it!!!

Truthfully though, I love my Triton, and while I would love a new Ranger, I plan on keeping my Triton as long as she'll hold up.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

    Danny

79 mph, wowsers, give me some details on this 80 mph toon of yours. A true 80 mph triton is rare, I would like some details to help me get mine up there a little more.

    Hey BK,

I've got nothing special. I bought the boat new in 2002, right before the x series came out. I was told that the TR series had a faster hull than the X series, don't know if that is true or not. Anyway, when I got that speed, the boat was only about 3 months old, I had just had the GPS installed, and I wanted to see what she would do. I have the 225 opti, had about 1/4 tank of fuel... about 14 gals I guess, me and my tackle. I hit 79, was still slowly increasing in speed, and my boat was ... dang my mind went blank, but anyway the boat was getting harder and harder to control. I'm not the best with steering through the bull going side to side, and I backed it back down.

My suggestion might be to contact Mike at Jet-a-marina. He was in charge of my set up, and I'm tickled with it.

Now with another guy close to my size, and at least 1/2 tank of gas, I generally don't push it over 70. For the most part, I very rarely even run the boat wide open. I figure if you red line your car long enough, it blows the engine, and everyone I ever hear talk about blowing an engine, say they were running WOT.

Good luck on your search for a few more MPHs, I know I like to cruise around 50 or so, sometimes hitting mid to upper 60s if the conditions are good, and I am very hot and want to cool off.

    Danny

PS, sorry, my mind just unblanked...LOL..it was called chine walking.

An erratic Tach is usually a symptom of a bad voltage regulator or rectifier.

It does not matter if it is a TR-20 or the TR-21, with a 225 optimax, neither boat will run 80mph and still be increasing speed. Absolutely cannot happen. I have been aroung the boat business and been in a lot of bass boats, and believe me, these boats will not run 80mph. I have a good friend with the TR-21 with 225 optimax that can drive the !!!!!! out of a bass boat and he has only seen 74.8 GPS with his boat. I currently own a 2007 bullet 21XD with the 300XS engine on a 14" rapidjack jackplate, set a 1.5 inches above the pad. I have seen 89.9mph once, folks let me tell ya, if you have never been in a bass boat at 90mph.....Well I just can't seem to put it into words.

i would suspect that bullet should see close to mid 90's with a 300xs, bass and walleye mag got right at 95 out of one back when the 300 first came out.is your's rung all the way out at 89?i don't know about 80 but my late partners 99tr21 with me and 20 gallons of gas and no gear gps'd at 78.4 turning a 27 in prop at 5900rpm so you aren't far off i'd say if it was loaded light and 175lb man.it would turn 74mph loaded.

RIP, the 225 opti, I agree, but the XS is a different story. Witnessed a guy run a 01 tr 21 with a 250 pro xs to 81 + saturday. So that hull will run it, just not with a 225 opti

    Hey Buzz,

I realize riptoad doesn't believe me, and that's OK. I grew up with a dad that believed he knew more about what happened to me where ever I was, even though he wasn't there. LOL I know dad always knew more about the business I did than I did, even though he had no experience at all in that business.

I also see you in your last post question what I posted. All I can tell you is what happened. In fact I was down at Jet-A today, and talked with Mike. I was telling him about this thread. He gave the credit for the set up of my boat to Rodney. Neither Mike or Rodney, both of whom not only work in the boat industry at Jet-A-Marina, but Mike is the service manager, and neither one of them were surprised.

Rodney and I were talking about the new Rangers, and there is a new Ranger "Z" 520 model coming out next year that have been getting rave reviews. I was told on this model at least, they are going back to the original deck design, including not having those locking rails down both sides of center.

Buzz, I appreciate your and rip's opinion, but I can tell you what I saw with my own eyes. I picked the boat up in late Feb/early Mar of 2002, added my GPS unit proably a couple of months later. So I am guessing I had my run at that speed in May of '02. As I've said, I don't run it that fast anymore, simply because I see no reason to.

If you guys want to question it, that's fine. Won't hurt my feelings any at all.

I know I've never run a Bullet, looked at them when I bought my boat, and from the bullet guys I've met online, most get really offended if they think someone is saying their boat is faster than theirs. That is not what I was saying. I am sure riptord has a faster boat. I am positive in fact. I also believe his boat catches more fish, takes rougher water, etc.. than mine does.

Good luck to the both of you.

    Danny

Well if anybody knows how to set a boat up those guys do, thats for sure. Next time you're down on the twins give me shout and I'll show you some fish and we'll let that merc eat. If it will do what you say, you better hang on to it, you got something special.

    Hey BK,

I'll be down just as soon as I get my boat back, and the heat breaks. I'm just not too crazy about fun fishing in this oppressive heat. LOL

You will certainly be welcome to fish. I'm always looking for someone to teach me new stuff, and hope maybe I can show a little something new to them in return.

Hey, btw, weren't you on the UK fishing team? I am an active member of a UK sports site, and one of the members have started a newsleter. I've been asked if I could write an article on something to do with UK sports in some kind of arena, and I was thinking about something along the lines of the fishing team. Thought maybe if I do this, I would ask you if I can pick your brain!
