Ky Lake Late September

I am going to KY lake in late September... I want to fish on the KY/ Tenn line in the grass. Can anyone give me any info on what to do/ where to go? I only have about three days to fish, and with my work schedule, I NEED TO CATCH FISH!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!

Where the grass is matted pretty good, I have had some luck on frogs and rats. It seems the grass on the west side of the main lake is a little thicker. I have noticed the last week or so, that the fish have started to transition up a little more shallow. I have also had some luck fishing points in 11-15 feet of water on small crankbaits. I have also caught a few running spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits parrellell to the grass line. This time of the year is always hit or miss for me. If you can find the big schools of shad, you can usually find the bass. I would check Dave Stewarts report on this site the week you are coming. He is usuallly right on, and will at least give you a good starting point.

I don't know if you have made your trip yet or not, but I've been out a few times, and had little luck on the LMs. Of course I was out right after the last cold front, so that may have had some bearing on it. Everyone I talked to that was LM fishing told me that they had very little luck.

Now I was trying something completely new to me, using a jig with a jig head. I had a ton of luck on smallies just inside forked bays, fishing the main fork point in the bay. I was also fishing the area you are talking about.

I actually wanted to fish the matted grass. I rigged up to fish the grass, and had to make the adjustment on the water. I don't know why I decided to fish the way I did, but I figured I had never fished that way before, and couldn't do any worse than I was doing for the LM.

Piney Camp Ground is in that area on the East Side of KY lake. And Cypress Bay is right on the KY/TN state line. Is that were you are planning to fish? I use to fish that area twice every year and would spend a week there each time. Fished that area since I was 8 years old until around 1984. Have not fished it since that time. Well I drove down there one day and fished for about 2 hours and then drove back home. Not much fun spending 8 hours on the road just to fish for 4 hours. I don't like doing anything when I am tired.

Back in the old days there was very little grass in the lake.

If the wind lays down try to bluffs by the old fort. Sometimes the KY bass will come up along the big bluffs and feed. These are the big rocky bluffs on the left as you exit Cypress Bay out into the main lake.

Panther Creek is just across KY lake and up a bit towards the ****. The point where the old Panther Creek enters the TN river will hold some big bass year round. It's a complex area that I trolled once using Buck Perry Spoon plugs. I hooked into a nice big bass within 5 to 10 mintues of trolling though that area. I was fishing pretty deep and it was in the middle of June. Water was like glass that day. So the fish were deep.

And on the Western Side I would head out of Cyrpess Bay and head along the Western Side towards Shannon Creek. I have caught a lot of nice bass in Shannon Creek. Fish the up and down ends of the Island along the way to Shannon Creek and you may hook into some nice bass there.

And the small area to the Right as you exit Crypress Bay can hold some bass. The little cove just upriver from Cypress bay has a nice little peagravel area that may hold some fish.

If the winds get up you can fish inside Cypress Bay and not have to fight the big waves of a North our South Wind. The Bay is protected pretty well from the winds. It can get rough in very high winds though expecially if they come out of the West.
