Don't know him or never heard of him but if a guide has to try to get trips by selling them on ebay I would be cautious....good guides stay pretty well booked by reputation.

I was kind of thinking the same thing but I didn't want to write it What kind of fish do you want to catch? If it's Stripers in east Tennessee, I know a guy that will put you on fish for sure. PS: It's not me. I do not guide

I know some fishing guides that frequent other web sites and advertise on those web sites that they have auctions for fishing trips on EBAY.

But not sure I would call them bad guides.... They seem to have a lot of pictures on their web sites that shows the fish they catch. And they catch a lot of fish. In fact they post pictures of their clients and their catches on the web site after every trip out.

Check the guides reputation on Ebay and with others to find out if they are any good.

I use to think that they were desperate when they posted about fishing trips on Ebay but I never said that too loud! Saying that would tend to piss them off. LOL

I think that when a guide is first starting out they need to do a lot of advertising to drum up some clients. Unless they have another full time job and or enough money to retire on they will need to work hard at getting new clients. Word of mouth is the best advertising but you have to get started somehow. If not you may starve in the Winter time.

Most of those ebay trips were auctioned off in the cold winter months. Even in Arkansas it gets cold enough to keep people indoors and off the lakes.

Moose: How do you know they post pics on their sites after every trip..do you have personal knowledge of when they are on the water guiding and when they aren't? Fact is they post pics when they have good days and don't post pics when they have slow days. Nothing wrong with that....but to think they are catching a lot of nice fish every time they go out is naive...no one does that...not guides, not professional tournament anglers...not you...not anyone.

Nothing wrong with bidding on a guide trip on ebay either...but I would still be suspect of anyone that is advertising there and does not have a known reputation for being a good guide....this individual is doing exactly what he should do...and that is asking for references from folks that may know about this guide.

It is one thing to call yourself a guide...it is another to be one.

Well said...if I ever need a guide on KY Lake, guides like Dave Stewart will be the first ones I call.... they don't have to "toot their own horn", plenty others do that for them ......
