Can anyone here recommend a fishing club, where my son and i could fish together as partners. He is now old enough (14) that he has the itch to fish some tournaments, and i think a club would be the best way to introduce him to competitive fishing. Thanks for any help.

Hey Wishin,
Where are you located? That will make a big decision in what type of organization you fish.
Also, you could fish some of the open tournaments, like the 5 hour tournament on Saturdays at Nolin. I'm hoping to get into those as soon as I can. They plan on them all winter, it appears.
Plus there is the fishers of men, the FOCUS tournaments, lots of them, just depends on where you want to fish.

Hey Danny, i am in mount washington, just south of louisville. I have been checking into the FOM, looks like they have a legacy division, which is fathers and sons/daughters, that would be great for us. Thanks for your help.Hey Wishin,

Fishers of Men is a great place to take a kid!
I wonder if there are any Father/Son or Father/Daughter Clubs where the cost is low and the prizes are just bragging rights or a few bucks worth of stuff.
It seems that all the tournament fees are over 50 bucks just to enter a team.
I hardly ever see any tournaments that have small entry fees.
Now I do see some NO FEE = Free Tournaments where it's sponsored by Advertising and giving away free goods for advertising. Sponsors get recognition and get to show off their goods.
But the concept of a father/son or daughter team competing against other fathers/sons & or daughters sounds like a good idea to me.
I use to have a lot of fun fishing with my dad. I am sure that many of the guys take the kids out from time to time. But I never heard about them taking the kids to a tournament.
Now Crappie USA has a kids event at the weight in docks and things like that.
Would it be good to see this type of tournament develop? After all we need to teach the kids about fishing and good sportsman ship .
wishin,
I've been to Mt. Washington many times. A great place.
I wish I could be more help, but don't know much about partner tournaments up there.
Hopefully we will see each other out on the lake sometime.
Danny
USA Bassin has several divisions here in Kentucky. Like KY-1 said, There is no membership fee for children up to 16 years old.
I run the Green River Lake division and another Board member (SecretWeapon .. aka Justin Hires) runs the Guist Creek Lake division. Coming from just south of Louisville, Guist Creek should be fairly close to home for you.
We have not determined our 2008 schedules yet, but those will be set in December. As for my division, our tournaments are always on Saturdays. I will be scheduling them one per month, March - July.
You mentioned Fishers of Men. I fished with them for a few years and really liked it. The tournaments are very well run. I liked that in fishing with them you fish more of the lakes in Kentucky (whereas with my division you compete on one lake all year, then go to a bigger lake for the regional and classic).
Feel free to e-mail or call me if you have any questions or would like more information.

Hey Moose1am, i agree with you a 100%, my son is 14, and is by far my favorite fishing buddy, we spend a lot of quality time together on the water, and it really helps us stay close. A father son/daughter tournament would be great for the kids, my son is determined to become the next Timmy Horton, and fish the tournament for a living. He is not going to get there with me teaching him, but if i can get him in some competitive fishing tournaments, hopefully he can gain more knowledge than he is getting from me, still havent figured out what a ledge is yet, been trying for two years. Seems like someone would start a small circuit like that, just to get the kids involved in the outdoors more, and competitive fishing.I wonder if there are any Father/Son or Father/Daughter Clubs where the cost is low and the prizes are just bragging rights or a few bucks worth of stuff.
