Spinnerbait, rattle trap, Bagley Balsa B II, Zoom Super Fluke, and a topwater or two that resembles a shad for the early morning bite. Fish in the grass, around the grass, and on the flats in the backs of bays. 3 ft seems to be about right. If you're not in the shad, you're not in the right place! You'll catch awesome numbers of fish, however they may not be of a very large size. This past weekend, the larger fish were still on the ledges. Maybe the bigger ones will have moved in some by this weekend with the cooler night weather. Good Luck!

    Art,

You just answered my question. I figured a lot of the fish will still be in transition, but the grass sounds like a lot of fun right now.

BTW, have you seen the long range forecast? A cold front coming through Saturday evening, with Sunday temps ranging in the mid-70's and Monday is supposed to be only 67 degrees, with a low of mid 40's. This should really cool the water and begin a mass migration back in the creeks, wouldn't you think?

Re: Need help on Ky & Barkley lakes

I was on Barkley Friday- Sunday on the north end and had one of my worst outings. In 2 days of fishing, I had only 3 fish above 2 pounds and not many fish in absolute numbers. Most of my luck was around points on the mainlake and dying vegitation when I could find it. Lipless cranks, Sammy's and a C-rig produced most of the fish. Had two nice fish on a Pointer 100 Sunday morning but both came unhooked before I could get them to surface. Was moving the jerkbait very fast in the back of a a bay where shad were as think as they could be.

To say the shad are scattered is an understatement. Middle of the lake, ledges, mouths of bays and backs of bays at any given moment in time and only one of the mornings did I see bass busting the shad.

Hope the water cools a bit more and we can get into a full fall pattern.
