    cumberland bass/striper

I am going to c-land this weekend. Will be going out of Jamestown. I have not been down since June. I will be fishing day and night. I will have my wife and father-in-law with me. I would love to see both of them catch a big smallie or a striper. Any help would be grateful. I am not against useing live shad. Have any of you guys saw any fish in the jumps, or saw fish up in the creeks yet. It might be early for this. I am just trying to get a jump on the fish before I get there. Thanks for any help.

    Re: cumberland bass/striper

I went Striper Huntin Sunday and drowned a few shiners but did not see the first striper. I did manage to catch one pretty nice little smallmouth on a downline set for striper, then I got bored and started chuckin a rapala DT10 and caught my best smallmouth to date. He wasn't a monster but a good 3-4 pound chunk.

The funny thing was I went to Dale, the smallmouth capital for the first time a couple weeks ago and caught one dink (on the same DT10 rapala by the way). I go to Cumberland and catch two not even trying for smallies.

After I caught those I got to thinking, you know I've been fishing Cumberland for Stripers since 83' and I've caught a boat load of spotted bass, and a few little smallies when I was bored but I can't remember ever catching a true largemouth on Cumberland, anybody else seen this?

I've caught plenty of largeheads on Cumberland with the biggest being a little over five pound. They are there maybe not like the smallmouth or the spots but there none the less. On the east end of the lake in the spring you can have some nice days on the green fish. Good job on the smallmouth you caught, smallmouth on cranks in the fall at the big C seems like I've heard that somewhere before, LOL.
