    Barren Report

Coming up from Alabama to visit some friends. We will be fishing Friday and Saturday at Barren. Anybody got a report? Interested in bass, crappie, and hybrids.

    Thanks

Fished a couple of hours yesterday afternoon without much luck. Fished an area I'm 100% positive is holding fish, but couldn't get a sniff till just before dark. Missed 2 bites but had to leave before primetime. Just before I left a 2 lb smallie almost jumped up onto the deck of my boat at my feet. He was trying to run me off so he could have supper without me socking him in the jaw.

Some good bass are showing up in the shallows early and late in the day. Fish the cuts off the main lake and in the mouth of Skaggs creek with crankbaits (tubes should work for numbers). Best chance for the shallow bite is dawn till sun gets up and dusk till ?. Fish the same places and points 8-16ft with a jig for some better size. Also heard a C-rig is working, but haven't been throwing it. Good luck.

I went yesterday morning and fished from about 6:30 - 10am. I couldn't find a fish early. Tried topwater then went to the ole reliable fluke and still nothing. Before I called it quits I had two Kentuckys on a jig. One fishing a rock wall and another fishing a shallow flat. Talked to some other guys who couldn't get bit either.

Even if fishing may be a little slow right now on Barren, it's definately worth being out there on the water.

You can try the crappie at Barren if the bass are real slow, but the crappie have slowed too. Right now the best bite is later in the day. I am doing a lot better later in the day than early morning, and I prefer some sunlight to, and its been overcast the last couple of days. Caught crappie from brush in about 7-16ft. of water on minnows. The shallower fish were caught up in the creeks. The water around the Narrows is really stained probably from turnover. The water looks a lot better the more you go up the creeks, and the fish will probably be shallower.I think on overcast days the shad really comes up and fish really scatter, and when the sun is out they tend to stay closer to brush. I really can tell a difference when the sun came out Thursday the bite picked up some. Good luck.
