    1st Striper Trip

I tried to book a trip with Lance Sasser; booked solid until December. I'll be using a referral of his for a trip next week.

Any advice for a newbie to striper fishing? Is tipping expected?

I have a cousin who said that striper fishing ruined him for other types of fresh water fishing. It's hard to imagine!

    Thanks in advance!

Pop R first of all if you catch fish and have a good time by all means tip the guide, it will pay off in the future even if you go on you're own.
When you start thinking of drag ripping 8 to 10# fish as small, and you get you're first 20# then a 30# and think you're only half way there toward's that 60#er it may effect how you think about other fish.
And book a trip with Lance, you won't be sorry.

I used to fish a lot of bass tournaments. Striper fishing spoiled me. It's like hooking your lure to a truck and letting it drive away. As for Lance Sasser, I saw 2 dozen boats around him...he was catching fish with people moving in on him....class act is all I have to say. I don't know him, but I've seen him several times on the lake and it seems that he is always on fish. Jeff Burton is very good as well. I've got a 51 lber on the wall....do bass get that big???? I don't think so.

    Thanks Pro V LE!

I'm really looking forward to the trip. It sounds like it could be a shock to an old creek fisherman, used to ultralight gear for smallies.
    Thanks for the tipping tip.
As I said, this is all new to me.

Lance is a great guide, and a great guy to be on the boat with. He will take care of you and put you on fish. Catching Striper is a blast and i can't get my friends, who are now addicted, to go fishing with me for any other type of fish. If you have a good time and catch good fish, tipping is a good way to go, just like good service at the restuarant, or your barber getting you a fresh cut, let them know you appreciate it and money talks.

I had it bad for Muskie last summer, and would still like to go after those bad boys, but those Striper... its a different battle, and you can actually get into a few, instead of casting 2-3 oz baits all day to maybe see a follow. They will pull like crazy and is the most exciting fishing i have ever done. Find them when they are hitting topwater, and it will ruin you for life. Getting a 6" red fin blown a few feet in the air, will make your legs week. But to then hook into a 15-20 # on the same bait.... its just awesome.

Sure they do; that's a bass you've got on your wall. Largemouth don't, but they're really sunfish. Striped, white, and yellow bass are the only "true bass."

The only striper I've ever caught was this summer at Indian River Inlet, in saltwater. I hear the freshwater ones fight even better, if that's possible...

I think the striper is part of the perch family.

    Re: 1st Striper Trip

It may have been my 1st striper trip but I started it as most of my pre-planned fishing trips; with a cold front and rain showers. The rain was welcomed but the fishing was tough compared to the previous week, our guide said.
My step son and I boated 3 keeper stripers, and a nice walleye.
No big fish here, but an enjoyable first trip. Thanks for the tips and advice.

I can give a second "thumbs-up" for Jeff Burton.
