if you get overheat warning that is intermittent [sp] that is a sign to replace them,if you know the waterpump is good.Take them out every spring and boil them in a pan to see if they open and close right.mine are 96 models and never been replaced my dads are 87 models and never been replaced.
If you have a newer motor with a computer, just have your dealer hook it up and check the temps on the port and starboard sides of the motor ---both sides should be closely in sync with each other -- each motor has different specs so check with your dealer or get a service manual... motor too hot is bad but too cold and you use more fuel ...... good to check it yearly...tight lines
An intermittent alarm is what I am getting. It will run fine at one time and on the next run it may sound the alarm and I have to shut it down. Once I wait a few minutes it will start up and possibly run fine again. Not a constant Problem but want to fix it before it breaks so to speak. Good water pressure and stream output. Might as well take it in and have it checked out, not worth the headache of having to replace something else that might be damaged by a bad thermostat.... Better safe than sorry....![]()
