Cedar Creek hp vs electric motor

I have been to cedar creek enough to weigh in on the previous post. I have a question for those of you that would like to see it go all electric. The question is how long would it take you to go from the ramp at the dam all the way to the bridge? This is my opinion on the subject leave it alone the way it is. The reason I say that is that since there are no jet ski's, skiers or big cabin cruisers to cause a lot of wake it is safer than some lakes. I have a 16.5 bass boat with 85 hp and was at Dale Hollow last weekend and the tournament boats didn't bother me as much as the 5 ft. rollers coming of the cabin cruisers. One last thought for those who want it to go all electric how fast do you think you can go navigating through the trees.

Don't forget about the crazy wind. Last time I was there it was howling after a calm morning and there's no way I could have made it back to the ramp with the TM. Now make the lake a "no wake", well, maybe.

Yeah, your right about it taking some time with just a trolling motor but there are three ramps which would help some. I would put up with some proactive ideas/restrictions on getting this lake to a true trophy status lake like it has been sold to everyone from the beginning. If idle speed helped get the hoards of fisherman down a little then maybe that's what they should do. Heck, i don't have the answer to what it would take but it sure doesn't look like it's going in the right direction to me. JMO

I'd like to see Cedar Creek go to idle-only speed, similar to some other lakes in the state. Often I'm fishing to a bank when someone zooms by and throws up a big wake and I've got to stop fishing and tend to my boat so I don't get knocked into a stump. I just don't see the need to run flat out on a lake the size of CC.

There are 3 ramps. If you want to fish at the bridge, put in at the ramp closest to that.

With regard to the trees, it's probably better to navigate through them with the trolling motor than the outboard.

Good point, put in where you will be primarily fishing. This whole thread has merit and should be considered. Maybe just no-wake, either of these would keep alot of traffic down and help the lake, just some thoughts.

I was there Wednesday and thinking about this post while on the lake, and I think if they are going to do something to slow traffic, ideally they could allow boats to run on the main lakefrom the dam back to the area where the trees are and make it idle speed from there. That way you could still lauch from the better ramps and get to the tree line in reasonable amount of time. Leaving the main lake open to running is especially helpful when the wind is blowing, as it was Wednesday.

I am for idle speed only and have been since this lake opened up. It is insane to have boats running full speed in such a small lake. From the very beginning I thought the state should limit because if you want a peaceful fishing lake it is the only way to go. This lake will never be an enjoyable lake to fish unless restrictions are passed to allow the fish come the banks and fishersmen be able to relax without being thrown out of the boat. Everyone better learn to fish deeper if restrictions are not considered. Where is common sence these days. Why do we think we must be in a new place in a moments notice. Slow down and fish slower. You may just catch more fish, and the lake may become a friendlier place to fish. Most people fish for relaxation.

Most of the time I'm fishing it from a boat that I have to paddle. It's not the end of the world if you can't fly down the lake at top speed.

Re: Cedar Creek hp vs electric motor

i agree that something has to be done...but TM only is definetly NOT the answer. yes, there are 3 ramps but many times i have fished from the dam to the back of cowan and over to the bridge. could not do that with a TM.
i like the last posters idea, but there are no perfect answers. i have always thought that the lake should have been larger to accomendate the traffic.
    but please no TM only

Re: Cedar Creek hp vs electric motor

The few times I have been on this lake the boat traffic awful. I don't mind competing with fisherman for fishing spots. But what I noticed was the speed of which boats were traveling. I am no expert on this lake but to me this lake was created to be fished not playing on the lake. I fish many small lake that are trolling motor only. I would not have a problem fishing this lake the same way but it is really too big to for that. They need to just put idle only on the lake or a speed limit. Which the latter would be hard to police.
The perfect example of what I say was that on the main ramp by the dam. We saw a guy that was going to buy a bass boat. He was testing it out in that area of the lake. Back and forth he went while we stayed hung up in the trees the whole time.

I would rather see idle or speed limit but if that could not happen I would rather have trolling motor only than th way it is now.

Negative on the trolling motor only deal, I could live with No Wake. But who knows, if it went trolling motor only it would encourage some people to find another lake. That might be a good thing as the lake is overfished.
