Shimano Core and Cumara Rod report

Just received my Shimano Core reel and Cumara rod. Rod is a 6'8" MH extra fast tip. I have got to say that Shimano went all out with this one. It's simply awesome. The whole combo barely weighs a tad over 10 ounces. It's a featherweight but still strong. Very sensitive, smooth and a real joy to fish with. I was out in the rain and even though the Cumara does not have cork for a handle, the foam was great, not slippery and performed flawlessly
Anybody planning on buying a real premium rod and reel, need to give this combo a serious look. You will not be disappointed. It will give G Loomis a very serious run for the money! Well, the Cumara is cheaper and better, so I guess it not much of a run!

Soon as I learn how to catch bass and start making 'Wenger' money my Snoopy poles are gettin upgraded. Can't say I envy you trying to scare up some bass out of Carrollton this weekend, didn't fish KBF this year when I found out the State Champ was out of there.

Best of luck, I hope you make the team.

And oh yeah...Y'all better stay away from that exit up there by the racetrack.

"Wenger" money---LOL!!!! Got a deal through Shimano---I love their products. The Crucials and the new Curados are also great!

Just got back from the Banquet---can't wait to fish this weekend. I know it will be tough, but should be fun!
I'm no where near "that" exit!!!! I was trying to talk many into going--just so it would make the competition a little weary tomorrow!!! LOL!!!

Maybe we'll fish one of the same circuits next year. Take it easy Devilshorse! Miss having you there to keep things lively.

The cumara's are a good rod, no doubt about that, but I really don’t think anybody who has fished G-Loomis would pick up cumara and think it is a better rod, it is cheaper than a glx but about the same price as a mossyback rod. If someone likes the "poodle" split handle then i could see them switching but most of your hardcore fisherman take one look at the split handle and don’t like it.
Still have not used the core yet, but heard nothing but great reviews.... like to know how it matches up the the 50 Mg or the old 100 Mgs.

Can't answer about the older MG's, but the rod is awesome. I have never used a handle like that, but it was great. The foam was not slippery and it was very sensitive. I really didn't mean to come off bashing any other rod brand----I just feel like it is in the same league as a Gloomis and much better priced. That's all.

Shimano actually owens G-Loomis so I don't think your blasting any company at all, what they have done is produce a great rod at a good price for thier line-up, the crucials are good rods, but no where near as light as some of your elite brands and Shimano wanted to get people who had not yet stepped up to the elite brands. They have the best warrenty in the business and produce good stuff, but i will say look at the sticker on the bottem of the rod, Made in China. G-Loomis with the exception of the guides are made in the good ole USA, hope that still means something in this day and time.

Re: Shimano Core and Cumara Rod report

I got one of the Metanium Mg7s a couple of weeks ago. It is the Japan market version of the same reel except that it is a different color and has 8 bearings and a 7 to 1 ratio. I have it on a GLX flipping stick and it is awesome. Feels like a feather and smooth. The only reason I ordered it over the Core is they were priced at $296 instead of $350. I have not had a chance to look at the Cumara rods yet. Do they use the same blank as Loomis?
