Lake C and the Cumberland River

Lake is still at 678.42 so more than likely the COE is not going to start dropping water into the river again any time soon. Trout fishermen in the river should enjoy steady flow until such time as the lake begins to rise again.. and pray for that because we need some water for next year.
Good trout fishing is continuing currently.
Occasional big walleye and some stripers showing up.
Brown trout seem to be making an attempt to spawn in the steady water.

Ok, that sounds great! I will be at Helms landing next weekend.

I havn't fished much without generators going (only go down once a year), is there enough water to run a boat? or even launch it for that matter.

Should I leave the boat at home (16 ft. tracker w/35hp) or should I bring the waders?

Would love some feedback on this so I can prepare

    thx

I've seen people powering upstream in boats but there are plenty of shoals that will shear off a prop. You'd be best off drifting downstream and hopping out to wade now and then.

I would have to agree with bookworm. Your boat can handle the skinny water it's your prop that can't. With that said, I have seen locals running their jons up and down the river. Keep in mind that they know the river channel and the dam release schedule and time their trips accordingly and with great precision. Going downstream would not be a problem as the worst that can happen is you have to get out and pull occasionally (and don't be embarrassed if this happens). Just find a way to set up a shuttle and you'll be set. There are alot of fishermen down there these days, probably someone who would drive you back to your rig. I'll be down there too, either by myself in my big green kayak or with my friend in a blue canoe. Give us a holler if you see us.
