    Stuck fishing rod

I have a seven and one half foot Fenwick flippin stick that is stuck in the expanded position. I fished in the rain and I guess it swelled up and got jammed. Anyone have any ideas about how I can get it to collapse?

Might try some heat from a hair dryer.

If your flippin stick is like mine, you have probably created a vacumn inside the base. The hair dryer may work to dry out the pole where its stuck. If that doesn't work, try drilling a very small hole in the base part where the rod would normally collapse into. If that doesn't doesn't work, you now have a one piece flippin stick (smile).

I never has one stuck that bad but after thinking about it i would try some WD-40 for a few days. Spray it at the point where the two pieces meet and let it set then try it again later. JMO

You are not worried about the rods breaking after you drill them?

I used a 1/16 inch bit and that was about five years ago--hasn't broken yet and hasn't get stuck again either.

Thats good, I would have expected some kind of a rough bur on the back side of the hole to cut a groove in the top half everytime it is extended and retracted.

I was worried about that and driilled the hole towards the back of what I thought was the open inside part of the receptical. I figured that the movable piece had some free space around it the nearer it got to the butt and probably did not touch the sides at all, at least not where the hole was. And, maybe it wouldn't even go back that far. I probably should have mentioned this with my first suggestion but didn't think about it until you mentioned it.

drill it in the very end on the handle plug not in the blank itself.

You are not drilling the rod blank. You are drilling the bottom of the rod where the hole in the end of the Blank is. Because of that hole being plugged you can create a vacuum. I say that because my first reaction was that they were drilling the rod blank, but they are drilling the bottom of the butt into the hole in the end of the blank.

Not exactly--when the moveable part of the rod is extended, there is an empty space in the handle/butt that could create a vacumn. That is where the hole needs to go to let the air out (or in) and break the vacumn. Since the rod is in the extended postion you won't be anywhere near the rod blank.
