I wish I had better news, but things did not go very well this weekend. My partner's boat motor would start after he just got it back from a tune up, but I think it was the fuel pump. Anyway, we fished around Wisdom with the trolling motor. The surface water temp was around 62 to 64 each day. We caught a few small KY's, no LM and no SM. We graphed fish at all levels around shad, but they wouldn't bite. Some of the locals said everything went dead a couple of weeks ago. When you caught a fish off the bottom, it would be real warm, so the fall turn-over may be coming and the fish are responding to changes in the water conditions. However, we did not get out on the lake so who knows. Maybe someone else can add some information.
I observed an interesting technique while I was there. Some guys were fishing with shad off the bottom from the boat slips at night, and to keep a fish from pulling their rods off the deck floor, they would open the their sprinning reel bails and loop their lines around a beer bottle. When a fish hit their line, it would turn over the bottle and the fish could "free-spool" unitl the hook was set. I thought that was a great idea. I wish I had better news, but I think it will be a few days or weeks before Dale is good.
