Ohio River at Owensboro?

Does anyone know if the Ohio River at Owensboro is worth fishing for bass?

There are not very many creeks and backwaters on that pool like there are on the next pool up (Rocky Point), so most of the fishing is on the main river. There is a good population of spotted bass on that pool of the river. The problem is when there is little or no current, the fish scatter and are very hard to find and catch. When there is just the right amount of current, the fishing can be very good around any type of current break like island and barge tie-ups.

That Owensboro Pool is great for Smallies come spring time in late to early May. I fished in a Top-8 two day tournament there one year and the 8 guys that belonged in one club. They all locked thru and went down river somewhere in that pool and every one in their club caught a limit of small mouth bass during the first day of the tournament. So it does have more small mouth from what I've been told. Good Luck and a 1/4 oz white single # 4 colorado blade spinner bait in the early spring just can't be beat.

A lot of bass are caught around the back side of the island right across the river from the downtown ramp. There is a lot of structure and slower current there. I have also heard of people catching bass around the spillway behing the OMU power plant.

If you like to catfish, the area right behind the big "E" holds some monster fish. There was even a local TV show that did a segment right there and caught some big cats.

Thank you so much for the information. My parents live there and i visit often and now i will bring the boat. I can't wait to fish there. My dad used to scuba dive in the river when he was young.
